    Hindus believe that the ganges are like a bridge between the people of the earth and the heaven. Also, I've heard that they believe ganges originate from the head of lord Shiva and ends in heaven.So, they believe that the ganges finally end in heavens. Thats the reason they scatter the ashes or sometimes just the raw bodies into the ganges.
