It depends on the dealership and the car. Therefore, this is something of which you need to be careful. With dealerships that sell primarily used cars, many of the cars are sold "as is". This means that there is no warranty on the car. You may get it cheap, but the is no guarantee as to how long it will keep running. On the other hand, those dealerships that sell primarily new cars usually are more interested their reputations. So, they are more likely to offer better quality used cars and offer some kind of warranty. However, if they do offer a warranty, it probably won't be the same as they would offer on a new car. For example, I bought my current car as a used car. It had been part of a rental fleet. When I bought it, it had only 20,000 miles on. Therefore, it was still under the original manufacturer warrantee. I also bought the extended warranty. I was able to do this because it was still under warranty. However, if I had bought one on which the warranty had run out, I would not have been able to get any where near as good a warranty. In any event, I did not get the full warranty with the 3 year/30,000 miles starting from the time of my purchase. I also don't know just how lemon laws apply to cars that are sold "as is." So, it would be nice if someone could fill in this gap.
