• I was just exploring the relationship between the US and Saudi Arabia. It's true that the society in Saudi Arabia differs greatly from that of the US based on religious beliefs and political practices. The US oil companies were the ones that did the exploration for oil in Saudi Arabia and allowed them to become so rich. The nationalization of the oil fields played an important role in making Saudi Arabia the country it is today. There are other factors in play within that country that many in the US don't care to understand, or learn about.
  The fact that Bin Laden is from Saudi Arabia should have no more bearing on the people of that country. Than say Charles Manson has on the US.

• Apparantly some of the people answering have been totally mesmerized by the American media. I used to live there are they are just normal people who want love and acceptance just like all humans do. In general they do not hate us. Just like in our own country they have their share of criminals and radicals who do an injustice to their fellow citizens by creating a stereotype. When they bleed the blood is red just like ours. Don't believe most of what you see on the news.

• agreed....but if you tell me woman have the same rights and protection under the law i will pee myself...as long as you do what you are told , exactly the way you are told to do it, as a woman you will be just fine...I have a friend amira, who is actually 3 years older than me...married an american (saudi) man, just to get a visa out of the country..true story..see i base everything i say of actual facts..i also know a woman from yemen..actaully she was born here and is an american citizen, but her husband, also from yemen took her ther on "vacation"....lol, left her there for over a year..her parents had to go to yemen and bring her home and file for a good old fashioned american divorce..till this day he did not give her an islamic divorce...lol but she remaried anyway, in civil court...i could go on forever..the community i live in has a very very very large muslim population..some from very oppressive muslim countries..

• Go back to the original question. It asks if Saudi is our friend or our foe. That was what I was answering to. By the way the fact that your friends have made bad relationship choices doesn't mean that Saudi Arabia as a whole is not our friend. When I traveled internationally I came to the realization that we are all pretty much the same. I don't think it's accurate to say that an entire country is not our friend. If you went there you definitely have a better understanding and an open mind.

• Cathy, you keep saying "muslim countries" but MUSLIM is a people that follow ISLAM the RELIGION WHICH IS NOT A POLITICAL PARTY. There are countries founded on Islam the same as the USA was founded on Christianity. But I would be willing to wager that you haven't taken 5 minutes to distinguish the difference between cultural and religious belief. You are a terrible person for the things you say. I'm sorry for anyone around you.

• no i wouldnt be surprised...actually if most muslims actually studied and understood their own religion, they would be surprised...most muslims only understand a fraction of what islam entails..this is especially so with "converts"..who have been sucked in by a few well placed islamic surahs that are basically just stolen and reworded christian scriptures..

• your life must be very sad cathy if you spend your life hating 1/4 of the world population. You also claim that Christianity is right when I'd say that well over 90% of the "devout" haven't read the bible. You also don't like athiests which make up 1/6 the world population. So by my calculations...you dislike or disapprove of well over half of the world population. So you walk down the street in disgust of most of the people you are near. It must be hard for you knowing that the people you dislike so much all love each other. I love everyone except those that intentionally want to do me harm. I have only met a handful of those people in my entire life. Learn to love, forget the hate.
