Help answer this question below.
No, I believe that we are all responsible for our own actions. Too many people behave like victims.
People want free will, and yet the minute they do something to harm themselves they want to claim they had no say in it. How pathetic in my opinion.
No they do not have the right to blame McDonalds. There is also a law now banning people from suing companies for making them fat. They were not forced to eat there and there are nutrition labels to read.
wow, this is topical.
No. I think a lot of people have stopped taking responsibility for their own actions. I'm really tired of frivolous lawsuits because people are a) trying to get rich off someone else or b) are too stupid to make a good decision and they want to blame someone else.
Let's all grow up and take responsibility for our choices.
MacDonalds is not free from all blame. They advertise to the kids, and the parents are nagged by the kids to drag them down to the feeding trough. The children do not know any better and I seems the parents don't either. It is a form of brainwashing to get a nation to eat unhealthy food, which MacDonalds is very aware of.Now that most are addicted to the food ,why should they be free of blame.Look at the obesity porblem.See "Supersize Me" and see the process.
I think you have freedom of choice, the people complaining about should stop eating it or excersize, that would be like getting choked on a fry and blaming mcdonalds. I think its non sense
1) In the last few years, everyone in America and Western Europe has been warned that this kind of food, especially if you only rely on it as one of the main component of your nutrition, represents unquestionabily a bad diet choice.
People in those countries, who still consum this kind of food regularly and who do not have a healthy way of life in other respects should certainly not push all the responsibility on McDonald's.
Consider also that it is not McDonald's alone, it is the whole food and fast food industry actually which is selling a lot of products which are not good for your health.
2) However, one should also reflect about following facts:
- as said above, a very important part of the food industry are still much more interested in their profit that in the health of the consumers. They will only start to market healthy products if there are enough people who want to buy them
- McDonald is well known for doing very offensive marketing actions to attract the children in their restaurants. The children are not informed about the risks of such a kind of nutrition for them.
- as long as the people are not conscious of the drawbacks, they will not be informed or will not get healthier alternatives. This applies to children and also to restaurants in some other countries.
- probably it is not very clear for everyone what is a healthy nutrition and a healthy way of life, because the food industry is still paying for "scientific proofs" for the benefits of using some products, with the results that contradictory studies are published, and the consumers don't know which advice to follow, and probably follow those who have the nicests advertisements because they can invest more money in their marketing campaigns.
3) As a conclusion, I think that people still have a right to blame McDonald's, but maybe also the whole system including the food industry, the FDA, and the food industry lobbyists. But they have also to blame themselves for not enough informing themselves, as far as they are mature enough to do it.
what you eat is a choice in many countries like the USA and Australia. If you are too lazy or affected by peer pressure to bring a healthy lunch from home or buy a healthy lunch, then you have to live with your decision.
However, it might be nice if some sandwich shops would try to offer something healthy at a comparable price to a Maccas meal. I can understand why people might go for something that is $4 at Maccas rather than pay $7 for a salad sandwich.
I don't think it's right to sue or blame someone or a place of business for your free choice. We are told many things are bad for us but we keep on using and/or eating them thats our fault.
No, no one has a right to blame Mcdonalds, just like no one has a right to blame any one or any thing for their actions; although Mcdonalds is grubbin!
Do people have a right to expect the government to only allow healthy food when they eat out? If it was every man for himself, we wouldn't have any rules.
In the abstract, McDonald's could pump out all the hamburgers they wanted and if nobody bought them, the company would rapidly go out of business.
HOWEVER, we have a situation in modern North America where it is far cheaper to purchase heavily-processed, distantly-made, nutritionally-dubious food from McDonald's then it is to purchase organic locally-grown minimally-processed food.
This fact is a reflection of how screwed-up our food production system is, and McDonald's is the most obvious symbol of that.
McDonalds is great in that it makes good food at a cheap price. You cannot blame the company for people who eat to much of it and then claim to be a victim. That is utter bullshit. Do you blame Budweiser for every drunk on the street corner? Its pathetic -- go to McDonalds when you are in a rush and eat a Big Mac and fries - its great! And if you cannot control your urge to eat too much, then dont blame McDonalds!
I would blame the customer. People don't seem to care if the food is unhealthy, as long as it's relatively inexpensive and convenient. Companies are in business to make money. Not their fault if some people overindulge in their products.
It's fully the customer's fault!
Blaming the availablity of Mcdonalds is just an excuse for obese people to act like victims- Victims of there own fat. I work in Mcdonalds and it is the regulars that are obese and happen to complain a lot, I just want to shout, WHY DONT YOU ORDER A SALAD FATSO !!!!
It cannot possibly be morally right to blame a business for your bad eating habits and your greed.
I hate McDonald's "food", and am astonished that people eat there, but they're just trying to make as much money as they can, like anyone else. American taste buds have never been overly refined, but it's voluntary to eat there. Still, I sometimes can't help thinking that McD's is contributing to the dumbing-down of American culture.
I ate only home cooked meals for an entire month and did not exercise. I have gained 5 pounds. I am proceeding with legal action against my wife, because this is her fault. If I
can't look like Mr. GQ, someone is going to pay! I am in no way shape or form in fault for not
exercising. I am also going after the cable company, as I cannot turn away from the TV. The
cable company owes me money damages because they MADE me sit and watch for hour after
hour- there was nothing I could do.
I wrote a curse word on paper - I am sueing the pencil company. Their pencil made me write that word.
I think McDonald's sells a food product. Unless they were selling heads of lettuce, it's going to have calories. Their flagship menu item is a hamburger which anyone with three braincells knows contains fat and cholesterol.
I see no fault in either party. If people enjoy their food, they should buy it in the quantity they see fit. McDonald's has a popular product and they should be able to sell it in any quantity they see fit.
I think the fault lies with all of the health nuts who think that anyone is getting out of this life alive.
It's weird, but when you live out of the country in a place where there are none, you crave McD's!!! Glad they are there....I started my work career as a teen at a McD's! Still like the food. ;D
its the customers fault...if so many of us didn't eat there they wouldn't have the money to expand....no customers no mcdonalds....

You're reading With companies like McDonald's, do you think that it's McDonald's fault that they make McDonald's available to everyone they can, or do you think that it's the customers' fault for choosing McDonald's above something better? Explain your reasoning.

I'm torn between I agree with that, and how are we to know if the food that is served in a public place is safe, unless they are forced to tell us?
