  • I hate McDonald's "food", and am astonished that people eat there, but they're just trying to make as much money as they can, like anyone else. American taste buds have never been overly refined, but it's voluntary to eat there. Still, I sometimes can't help thinking that McD's is contributing to the dumbing-down of American culture.
  • wow, this is topical.
  • No they do not have the right to blame McDonalds. There is also a law now banning people from suing companies for making them fat. They were not forced to eat there and there are nutrition labels to read.
  • Do people have a right to expect the government to only allow healthy food when they eat out? If it was every man for himself, we wouldn't have any rules.
  • People want free will, and yet the minute they do something to harm themselves they want to claim they had no say in it. How pathetic in my opinion.
  • No, I believe that we are all responsible for our own actions. Too many people behave like victims.
  • I think you have freedom of choice, the people complaining about should stop eating it or excersize, that would be like getting choked on a fry and blaming mcdonalds. I think its non sense
  • MacDonalds is not free from all blame. They advertise to the kids, and the parents are nagged by the kids to drag them down to the feeding trough. The children do not know any better and I seems the parents don't either. It is a form of brainwashing to get a nation to eat unhealthy food, which MacDonalds is very aware of.Now that most are addicted to the food ,why should they be free of blame.Look at the obesity porblem.See "Supersize Me" and see the process.
  • No, no one has a right to blame Mcdonalds, just like no one has a right to blame any one or any thing for their actions; although Mcdonalds is grubbin!
  • I don't think it's right to sue or blame someone or a place of business for your free choice. We are told many things are bad for us but we keep on using and/or eating them thats our fault.
  • what you eat is a choice in many countries like the USA and Australia. If you are too lazy or affected by peer pressure to bring a healthy lunch from home or buy a healthy lunch, then you have to live with your decision. However, it might be nice if some sandwich shops would try to offer something healthy at a comparable price to a Maccas meal. I can understand why people might go for something that is $4 at Maccas rather than pay $7 for a salad sandwich.
  • It cannot possibly be morally right to blame a business for your bad eating habits and your greed.
  • 1) In the last few years, everyone in America and Western Europe has been warned that this kind of food, especially if you only rely on it as one of the main component of your nutrition, represents unquestionabily a bad diet choice. People in those countries, who still consum this kind of food regularly and who do not have a healthy way of life in other respects should certainly not push all the responsibility on McDonald's. Consider also that it is not McDonald's alone, it is the whole food and fast food industry actually which is selling a lot of products which are not good for your health. 2) However, one should also reflect about following facts: - as said above, a very important part of the food industry are still much more interested in their profit that in the health of the consumers. They will only start to market healthy products if there are enough people who want to buy them - McDonald is well known for doing very offensive marketing actions to attract the children in their restaurants. The children are not informed about the risks of such a kind of nutrition for them. - as long as the people are not conscious of the drawbacks, they will not be informed or will not get healthier alternatives. This applies to children and also to restaurants in some other countries. - probably it is not very clear for everyone what is a healthy nutrition and a healthy way of life, because the food industry is still paying for "scientific proofs" for the benefits of using some products, with the results that contradictory studies are published, and the consumers don't know which advice to follow, and probably follow those who have the nicests advertisements because they can invest more money in their marketing campaigns. 3) As a conclusion, I think that people still have a right to blame McDonald's, but maybe also the whole system including the food industry, the FDA, and the food industry lobbyists. But they have also to blame themselves for not enough informing themselves, as far as they are mature enough to do it.
  • No. I think a lot of people have stopped taking responsibility for their own actions. I'm really tired of frivolous lawsuits because people are a) trying to get rich off someone else or b) are too stupid to make a good decision and they want to blame someone else. Let's all grow up and take responsibility for our choices.
  • Blaming the availablity of Mcdonalds is just an excuse for obese people to act like victims- Victims of there own fat. I work in Mcdonalds and it is the regulars that are obese and happen to complain a lot, I just want to shout, WHY DONT YOU ORDER A SALAD FATSO !!!!
  • It's fully the customer's fault!
  • I would blame the customer. People don't seem to care if the food is unhealthy, as long as it's relatively inexpensive and convenient. Companies are in business to make money. Not their fault if some people overindulge in their products.
  • McDonalds is great in that it makes good food at a cheap price. You cannot blame the company for people who eat to much of it and then claim to be a victim. That is utter bullshit. Do you blame Budweiser for every drunk on the street corner? Its pathetic -- go to McDonalds when you are in a rush and eat a Big Mac and fries - its great! And if you cannot control your urge to eat too much, then dont blame McDonalds!
