Why, he'd be numero uno, bein the King and all. There have been 4 King Williams. So he'd be the 5th, and I'll drink to that. The first was the Conqueror,King 1066 to 1087; 2nd was his 3rd son, called the Ruddy King, mebbee he drank a 5th or two himself,1087 until 1100; 3rd was the one married to Mary,1689-1702, he was Dutch, was called William of Orange (Ruddy having been taken); William III of England was also William II of Scotland; and the 4th,1830-1837, isn't all that interesting 'cept as Admiral he had sailed on HMS Impregnable. They really knew how to name ships back then.

The king before Victoria was William IV so William Wales would become William V.

William V, of course. But Will's name is NOT William Wales, any moe than his grandmother's is Elizabeth England; it's William Arthur Philip Louis Mountbatten-Windsor. He could choose to reign under any of those names, though "Arthur" is unlikely for obvious reasons; and "Charles" has been tainted by the idiotic Stuarts, and by the fact that one of them was deposed and killed. George VI was called Albert (or actually Bertie) until his brother abdicated. If he were a member of any other family on earth, he'd be William Mountbatten; but Elizabeth decreed that the royal family would continue to use her family name of Windsor. The family name was Saxe-Coburg und Gotha up until World War I, when it was changed because the Germans were the enemy. George V named himself after the castle that he lived in.
