It's not an acronym. One day the guy who wrote the book (this was before he wrote it though) looked at his file cabinet. One drawer was A-N, and the other was O-Z, and he thought, "Hey, would you look at that. It spells 'Oz'!" So he decided to name the magical land, "Oz"
