  • Absolutely! but you have to know what to look for. That's the trick. If you've ever watched Antiques Roadshow on PBS, you'd see many examples of folks finding valuable antiques at garage sales, flea markets and antique shops that are undervalued. You can find books at library's and book shops with info specifically about antiques and what to look for. If you are interested in something in particular, such as glass, furniture, pottery, you'll need to research brands that are considered valuable. Condition is also of great importance and you'll need to know what is acceptable. You may have a good eye, and are able to spot an interesting design or classic style that just "looks" valuable, or maybe you are just attracted to the piece and can't live without it. Could be you've found something of monetary, if not, you have a piece you really love. The fun is in the hunt. Knowledge and persistance will increase your odds of finding something valuable. The more time you spend haunting thrift shops and sales, the more likely you are to score. Have fun!

  • Aside from the other answers, you need luck. I remember hearing on the radio about stories of people buying vintage records at garage sales for 25 cents, when the record is worth a couple hundred or more dollars.
