Help answer this question below.
for beginners, if you are a smoker, QUIT SMOKING!!!
But depending on the colour of the mucous, will help lead you to finding the reason why you produce mucous! Could be you have allergies (from strong chemical smells (perfumes, smoke, etc...) to pet dander to anything really), or you could have an infection, such as bronchitis or pneumonia.
Mucous is part of our immune response.
So I say find the reason thats causing the mucous, and when you eliminate the cause, you don't have the end product!
Mucinex works wonders...
Take an xray chest and consult a doctor. If the cause is infectious , it can be cured but if allergic or chronic, lifestyle adjustment is required.
Some Lifestyle adjustments :-
Avoid any contact in environment/ agents causing you cough.
Stay out of extreme cold.
Remove spices / pickles and too much butter from diet
Exercise regularly to keep airways clean ie breathing exercises
sleep in position with head elevated to avoid breathing disturbance at night
