What specifically do you want to do in Hollywood? Become a script writer, director, producer, cinematographer, editor, grip, sound recordist, there are 101 different jobs, you need to choose one.
Then find out how you can get experience/qualifications for that type of work. Then you need to publicise yourself and offer something no one else is offering so you stand out from the other hopefuls, an agent might be a good help but just watch you are not fleeced.

Oh, probably not. I'm in community college right now. It's kind of surreal, because my focus is on education, i'm not sure what people will think if they ever hear of me wanting to go off to California and do stuff with Hollywood.

It can be done, I know an English major grad who went out and became a producer. Now getting into technical end of business.
Need to know someone before you go. He drove car for c-level producer for free in return for being able to attend meetings.
Accept the fact that you may end up back NYC-but you'll have a better tan!
