  • Sure, why not? Back in the 20's college boys used to swallow them live and whole, they thought this would impress the girls. It musta worked cause they produced a whole 'nother generation of college boys who impressed the girls by goin off to WW2. (The first person on record to have done this was Lothrop Withington Jr, Harvard's 1919 football captain [and perhaps a certified idjit], the world record, set by a Los Angeles College student in 1974, is 300.) I do not recommend swallowing them whole, you miss all the nuances of flavor you get by chewin um up real good. And you do want to chew good cause they have lots of bones, the smaller ones are mostly bones. You can fry the small ones up crisp and eat them crunchy bones and all. Start a trend, serve small crispy fried goldfish on the larger goldfish crackers as appetizers at your next kegger, or as Hors d'oeuvres at your next spelling bee. I would avoid the fancier types such as veil tails, fan tails, and tri-tails as all the extra finnage just means more bones. I'd especially stay away from the bubble eyes, as they will be staring mournfully at you as you try to eat them. However if you choose the Black Moor, you can have blackened goldfish without having to worry about over cooking it. If you prefer fillets or a larger meal, Goldfish do get up to 2 feet long and over 6 pounds. Gold fish are carp, Carassius auratus, the domestic version of the Crucian carp, C. carassius, if you prefer them cooked any carp recipe would work. Gold fish are low in sodium and have no sugar, they are very high in protein and phosphorous, high in selenium and vitamin B12. A fair source of iron and calcium ('specially if you eat the bones), they are however high in cholesterol. http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item/15009.html They can be an inexpensive meal, common comets can be purchased at pet shops for around half a buck, or cheaper as feeder fish; a couple of bucks for a dozen at a bait shop, or even free as prizes at county fair ring toss games. But prices get up into the thousands and even more (paid by people who are defiantly 'certifiable idjits.') It depends on if you want fast food or fine gourmet dining. Bon apetit! ( Which is French for look out for the bones.)
  • Why would you want to eat them?
  • If you think about it... It's called Fishstix not Goldfish!!!! Thats terrible..wanting to eat a goldfish!! My goldfish aren't very happy about you wanting to eat them!!! Patrick and Jub-Jubb( my fish)
  • Goldfish are a type of carp, and carp are an edible fish, so yes. Unless you're raising your goldfish in a pond though its pretty unlikely that they're big enough to make a decent meal out of. You'll want to make sure that you're feeding additive-free food if you're considering growing them for consumption though, as well as making sure you don't have high mercury levels in your pond.
  • Godfish are edible, although in the UK , eating goldfish is against animals rights and is not allowed by the RSPCA.
  • Yes, they are perfectly edible just like most fish. I'd go for the bigger ones.
  • You most definitely can eat goldfish. I swallow them all the time. It is fun at parties or to shock your friends. I have eaten hundreds of live goldfish over the years. Once gulped down close to 200 in one sitting. If you drink enough water and do enough of them at one time you can sometimes feel them moving in your gut for a few seconds!
  • sure, there the snack that smiles back, goldfish, the perfect cheesy bite-size crackers that everyone loves

  • Yeah why not..its just a carp :)
  • Yeah do you think I would get sick or anything if I bit off the head of a little goldfish then ate the whole thing and chewed it up
  • My one teacher did in front of us, I think you could too.
  • At a friends Stag and Doe, the wedding party had an idea to charge people $3 for "Goldfish Insurance". If you didn't pay, your name was put into a draw to swallow one of three goldfish in front of everybody. There was about 6 or 8 people that didn't purchase the so called Goldfish Insurance, so three guys all swallowed the goldfish. Two handled it ok with a bad taste in their mouth, the other almost threw up. But if you want to eat goldfish, go for it.
  • I've eaten large ones grilled - they crop up in rivers now and then. They're as good eating as any other carp - in others words very nice indeed. They're not illegal to eat in the Uk - what isn't allowed is the swallowing of live goldfish as a stunt.
  • I'm sure you can, because i think all freshwater fish a edible, its only seawater fish where you have to worry about poison.
  • Go right ahead and knock yourself out.
