Help answer this question below.
Bush was not elected by a popular majority the first time (Gore won, but Bush had more electoral votes), and Bush barely won the second time with a razor thin majority over Kerry.
Kerry was a weakened candidate who did not enjoy the full support of the party, Ralph Nader siphoned off some votes, and the election in Ohio was probably rigged by the Republicans, but since they destroyed records, we may never know.
Either way, at least 1/2 of the people in America were frightened by the constant terrorism level warnings, which convinced the Americans that Kerry, the decorated Vietnam veteran was actually a coward who couldn't defend the U.S., while the draft-dodging, A.W.A.L. National Guard cocaine-snorting Bush could defend America.
This is a classic case of silly butch Cowboy bravado and news media fluff fooling the American people for a while, and in this case, long enough to re-elect an idiot and a clown named Bush.

They did not vote him in .There was fraud in the voting process and they would not allow a recount, which should have been done.
Don't blame me: I voted for Kerry.
Succumbing to fear in the face of the terrorist tactics used by George W. Bush and Co. during the 2004 election I believe DOES put the blame for the last four years of the doward spiral of America squarely in the lap of the people of America.
I didn't
Because a large segment of Americans have had instilled into them a deep-seated fear of terrorism which is the predominant factor in how they form their political views.
Bush didn't get my vote
I don't know..nor do I know why anyone voted for him the first time...I wish someone would be able to explain it in logical, clear and concise words..no emotion, no diatribe, no insulting of the other candidates..I would certainly appreciate anyone who can explain why in only positive terms without denigrating the opposition or any of the other candidates. Can anyone out there do that?
Beats the hell outta me. I didn't vote for him in either election. I hate that man.
I agree with Kedar
I didn't, but then look at the choices offered. If Pee Wee Herman would have been running I would have voted for him over the choices we had.
Because he did it illegally and most of the general public, DO NOT DO THEIR homework when it comes to politics , as we have noticed the man is a complete moron.
Vote for G.W. the second time???? I didn't vote for him the first time!?!? In fact, the majority of us didn't vote for him the first time...don't really know what happened the second time. Proof of the dumbing down of America I suspect.
That's the $100,000.00 question?..............beats me!!!!!!!!!!!
Because people are morons.
I think half the voters had been drinking
I think the credit should go to Chad and Monica Lewinsky!

They didn't, his cronies stold it! Voter fraud everywhere.
Wasn't me!
Because we weren't able to vote for "None of the Above".
I've asked myself that for...um, how many years has the idiot been in office? Yeah, that long. I have no idea how anyone could have - security or not. I didn't, and didn't vote for him the first time either.
Well technically he wasn't.
Considering that he got appointed the first time around.
He wasn't. He stole both elections
My hunch is that, despite the official tallies, that Kerry won in 2004. Just a hunch, it's what my gut tells me. Yes, I think that it is deeply embarrassing that millions of people voted for Bush. Definitely some convoluted reasoning going on there. religion, the occupation of Iraq, Kerry and all of his flaws, Swift-Boating...tragic. This entire 8 years has been like a long, national nightmare. 364 days left to go!
I didn't. I didn't vote for him the first time.
I didn't. I voted Dem, just because I'd rather see anyone but him in office.
Because he is trying his best to run this country against people that are trying to ruin it.
About the economy: It was Clinton that set up the house of cards. By the time Bush got in, it was already collapsing. And the dishonest corporate leaders deserve much of the blame for the mess. After all, Bush was not the CEO of Enron or WorldCom.
About the war: I don't think anyone actually wants a war. I don't think anyone wanted Sept 11, 2001 but we got it anyways. That was not Bush's fault. And it wasn't his fault that Saddam Hussein refused to let the UN inspect the weapon site. That was the grounds for that war, whether or not weapons were actually found there. And more Jihadist a**holes keep disrupting Iraq, stopping us from pulling out. We should only pull out once we are certain that Jihadists will not re-emerge to take control of Iraq, and then us. And, if we have to strike Iran and Syria to keep Jihadists from doing another Sept 11, then we need to do it regardless of short-term sacrifices.
About the "illegal" eavesdropping: Sad to say, there are some Jihadists right here in this country. I don't like the idea of every phone call or Internet activity being monitored by the government any more than anyone else does. But, I would rather Bush monitor it than some Jihadist who might kill me (or someone else) just for saying the wrong thing. To some people, Bush might seem a tyrant. But it is necessary to protect our freedom. Better a monitored blog or phone call than to have someone tell me everything to do and threaten severe punishment if I make a small mistake.
Bush was re-elected simply because he did his best to address these difficult issues. He did make his share of mistakes, but at least he has been generally honest. And, he is not afraid to p!#$ off people if that's what it takes to get the whole job done. And, if anyone claims him a tyrant, I felt that way until I learned that the Jihadists were actually forcing him into that position. To me, it's THEM who are the real tyrants.
George Bush was elected becuse he made false promises to americans that needed it.
Why did they vote for him the first time.....
anyway, see Kedars answer.
In my opinion, Bush set things in motion from the lat two years of Clintons' awesome reighn. He tied him up in court, set up 9/11, and set vote rigging in motion. Not alone of course... he is way to dumb to have done it alone.... but he has money(even more now that oil prices are skyrocketing) and his family has money, no doubt even senoir is dissappointed in what he has helped his son do.... decimate this country. We didn't vote for him (I only know one person who vote for him, and even he didn't do it the second time) The elections were rigged... They HAD to be.
Because we were at war and switching Presidents during war meant switching the head of the armed forces, and switching the head of the armed forces meant that we were losing or doing something wrong. People did not want to admit anything like that....It is some kind of "subconscious denial"....
BECAUSE WE STILL NEEDED SOME MORE GOOD LAUGHS DURING PRESS CONFERENCES
I think the main reason was the National Security issue. After 9/11 America felt vulnerable and under attack in a way that it has probably never felt before. When people feel vulnerable they instinctively move to the right. Since election day was only about 6 months after the successful invasion of Iraq, it was not obvious what a disaster this actually was. And it was not so obvious that the invasion of Afghanistan, rather than suppressing Al Quaida, had spread it round the world. Kerry failed to convince on National Security. So on election day 2003, Bush looked the best bet for the insecure. Wrong, but that is why they voded as they did.
We Americans were on something that day we voted.
Pride.
kedar has a wonderful and informed answer, but I don't remember why people voted for Bush. I voted Democrat but you know what happened so that was the end of it. My whole family, all of my friends and others just want a third party to get a good amount of seats in Congress to start building a third party choice.
I certainly didn't vote for him either time. And I think we all know he didn't win the first election. He lost the popular vote, but won the electoral. That's why I think that system is so bogus. If we the majority didn't vote for a certain candidate, that candidate should not be in office. Period.
I concur with Kedar on this question. The system is jacked up and voter fraud was rampant.
They didn't, the supremes installed him!
Either the polls were rigged (as there were many rumors to that effect) or they were brainwashed ... that's all I can figure. I don't watch FOX news so the brainwasing didn't affect me.
Legitimate question. I hate to think that half the people who voted honestly believed the country would be well off under Bush. I voted for Kerry but didn't have my heart in it...mostly an anti-Bush vote. Looks like this time around we will have some clear choices. Hope so.
Amnesia.
Many people were manipulated into believing that what Bush and his cronies’ said was true. Others are oblivious to the important issues at stake and only care about frivolous issues (such as owning big/powerful guns, being a Christian, and disallowing gay marriage) that have little to do with the health of our society. Others are rich/selfish and only care about getting tax breaks for the wealthy….and others stupidly felt it was more important to elect someone who seemed like they would be a cool person to hang-out with on the ranch than elect someone who had the mental aptitude and strength to lead a nation.
Because the majority of Americans were deceived. Plus is was the lesser of two evils for a lot of people because John Kerry was an idiot too.
Ron Paul for President '08
Due to the dominance of the electoral vote.
Honestly? There are many reasons. One of the biggest is that the Republicans made a concerted effort to put gay marriage on the ballots of many states; thereby, guaranteeing the strong turnout of his right-wing Evangelical Christian base. That was the strategy and it worked. It was just enough to tip the scales.
George Bush was the better choice in both elections and most Americans could see this. His competition was weak and we are lucky they were defeated. If the US and world media were not so biased against bush the margins in his favor would have been huge. He won in spite of the mass media controlled by the left. A large portion of voters pulls the lever based on whatever the media tells them. If we had a neutral or unbiased media, Bush probably would have won 60-40 or 70-30.
i dont know? he has friends and money

The same question has been baffling me for the past 8 years but, if it helps any, he wasn't elected, he was appointed
Mass Stupidity.
I didn't
They didn't!!! it was a fix

But isn't it embarrassing that so many people voted for him?
by judgebill on September 4th, 2007
Not to me...I didn't vote for him. I'm not about to be embarassed for other people's mistakes.
by LadyLuck on September 4th, 2007
Actually, Kerry had himself to blame for losing. He tried to make the election about Vietnam and it failed. There are several reasons. One of them being that his testimony before Congress in 1971 was not the sort of thing you want to remind people of. And he couldn't find a clear way to express himself throughout the campaign, allowing an image of himself as a flip-flopper to emerge and solidify. Personally, I voted for Bush not just against Kerry but because I thought he had done a good job the previous four years, but Kerry clearly didn't help himself.

One word--Florida. The misscounts, the lost absentee ballots, total mismanagement.

You forgot the nice little bribe to the American electorate of a "tax refund" before the election too. Dangle that carrot and most people saw a few hundred bucks as reason to keep driving our country into the shitter.
by Legend In Your Own Mind on March 2nd, 2009
President Obama is 'giving' a rebate. Is that also a bribe?
.
I think rebates are a joke but do you really think that people vote for a candidate because he sent one their way?
by Factotum on May 17th, 2009
obama is giving a rebate against the democratic congress wishes....but he also realizes ,like Bush, that the people deserve their money...even though ,rebates are really not what they seem....obamas doing it because he realizes the "rebellion " of america against the government...he can't side with government cuz he will be rebelled against too...better to stick with the people instead of government...thats who they all are supposed to be for anyway the PEOPLE...thank goodness obama is using "common sense".....bush wasn't bribing...he really was trying to give us some of our money back...obama is because he realizes what will be best for HIM...as far as "the people's "is concerned..:)
by thatsJustme on May 21st, 2009
Bush didn't "give" anything back that belonged to anyone. A few hundred bucks was a bribe plain and simple. Obama is trying to revive an economy that republicans wrecked with all the deregulation foolishness, but keep on dreaming.. Whatever.
