  • Great idea!
  • Why are we restricting the number of passengers? Don't we WANT people to carpool?
  • I like it. It dissuades inexperiences drivers from biting off more than they can chew. Better safe than sorry.
  • Only for those who have been caught in the wrong. I can't see punishing the many for the sins of a few. Let the criminals and violators have the graduated license.
  • I think punishment for breaking laws should be more severe, not add requirements to laws we already have.
  • Where are you from? Apparently someplace that does things differently than we do it in NH. Those under 21 must have a BAC of 0.000 even if they are not driving. Young drivers are restricted in driving times and passengers and it is FAR easier for them to get their license suspended due to the lower thresholds for young drivers in our point system. "How many points can you accumulate before suspension? It depends on your age. There are three age categories: Drivers under the age of 18 * Six points in one calendar year: three months suspension. * 12 points in two consecutive years: up to six months suspension. * 18 points in three consecutive calendar years: up to one year suspension. Drivers 18, 19, or 20 * Nine points in one calendar year: up to three months suspension. * 15 points in two consecutive calendar years: up to six months suspension. * 21 points in three consecutive calendar years: up to one year suspension. Drivers age 21 and older * 12 points in one calendar year: up to three months suspension. * 18 points in two consecutive calendar years: up to six months suspension. * 24 points in three consecutive calendar years: up to one year suspension." - http://www.dmv.org/nh-new-hampshire/point-system.php
  • I don't know where you live, but I finished the GLP in my area (Learners, then novice, then full license). At times I was against certain aspects of it, but when you finally get your full license you find you are better off for it. The carpool point is valid, but it's a peer pressure thing. One friend is less likely to persuade you to do something dangerous than 4 friends all around you. I would stop and say 'have fun walking' if it got to that point, but a lot of people can't do that. I have ejected people from my vehicle for several reasons, and they come back apologizing the next day. The BAC factor is the best since even a sip of beer can have effects on people. Zero is zero. Plain and simple. Plus, most people in the GLP are too young to legally drink so it shouldn't be an issue. It also keeps you from getting too wild if you have any kind of ?conciense? (I am having a brain fart - can't spell the word for inner gut feeling, the inside voice, etc.) and therefore you are more likely to come out with a clean record. Sadly, a lot of people in the program that I see are going to have a record the size of a phonebook by the time they try to exit the program. All in all, it's a good idea. It's like having your parents keep you in line. Sure, you hate it, but in the end you're better off for it.
