Does that research that says men talk more than women seem bogus or what?

i don't think its true, i have met many men who talk my ear off and many women who are really shy. just depends on the individual.

As Mark Twain said, "There are lies, damned lies and statistics." People who do this sort of research often use it to confirm their own preconceptions.

I do think it's bogus. I personally think that women generally talk more than men when it all comes down to it.

I read a newspaper article a while back where they questioned research in a self-help book that said women talk "twice as much as men" (they actually discovered the "fact" was quoted from another self-help book that had just made a random estimate) and as an experiment they wired up two of their employees: one femal one male. The conclusion was that the woman (who was a self-confessed chatterbox) talked only very slightly mor than the male over the course of the day.
They did find that the most notable difference wasn't in the amount of talking but the way they spoke. A lot of the woman's talk was confirming back to people what they had just said and listening-type comments like "I see what you mean" - whereas the man seemed to ask more direct questions. The woman also seemed to talk in the abstract more (about feelings, ideas etc) whereas the man seemed to be talking more about physical realities and hard facts. That might just have been in the characters of the people they wired up though.

well there are more male than female politicians... what does that tell you? Men just lurve the sound of their own voices!!

There are a lot of guys that I have met that talk more than I do...which is crazy, because if you get me on a good day i do talk more than I should...not about nonsense...but yea those guys normally had a lot of feminine qualities too though...haha
