john mc cain is the best qualified among the republicans.as an old fighter pilot, pow, senator and one who ran before for the oval office.i think he is right.
-
I'm Republican and I am not Anti-Gay... nor am I an arsehole. Although some may disagree with the latter.

Politicians, of all parties, will say whatever they think voters want to hear. Because of the strong evangelical turn out in the last two elections, Republicans are trying to get them to vote Republican in this next election. Since homosexuality is considered a sin in the eyes of most, if not all, evangelical Christians, candidates will say they are against things like gays in the military and gay marriage regardless of their actual feelings, and voting record, are on the matter. It's the same with the Democrats only they are trying to get the swing votes of those who are in the middle and not too far left or right in the political spectrum. The best you can do is to vote for the candidate who comes closest to what your personal views are even if you disagree with them on certain issues.

your best recourse..Why don't you email John McCain and tell him how you feel and why.
-
well, I can't say I was ever OK with John McCain. and it's been more than half my life since I can even claim to like anyone Republican. Not that there are no Democrats here and there that have done no wrong. the whole "don't ask, don't tell" policy is a load of crap if you ask me. He still agrees with "Don't Ask, Don't tell" and he has said that gays should not be allowed to serve.

dickie c has a daughter who is lesbian so he is o.k. with her...I suspect that would be true of others in his party as well...if they have "a dog in the fight", they will react one way...if they don't, they will toe the party line. However, there may be some exceptions to that..I hope there are! :)

Well, I am a R and I could care less if someone is gay. My sister-in-law is gay, my mom's cousin is gay, I have some gay friends... and believe it or not, I am not a &*^&*%&^%&*%*, as you so kindly called me. But thanks for the colorful language.
-
republicans are more openly against the gay community

Ethics win votes, I think most politicians disagree strongly with their own platforms but have to round out the ethical issues to target their demographics. Do you think that george bush got elected on his foriegn policy? Most likely not, ol gorgie was the republican frontrunner and he pushed ethical issues and taxes and all that other honkey that causes people to vote without thinking about political agenda.
-
The only Republican I have ever known to be at least a moderate on LGBT issues is Guiliani. And you see how far he has gotten so far in the primaries . . . . :o(

Well this slightly off point, but Republicans tend to be more conservative. "Conservative" in politics has a connotation of "resisting change". By contrast, Democrats prefer to use the word "progressive" rather than "liberal" to describe themselves. So there's a constant tension between progressive thinking -- "lets change things for the better" and conservative thinking -- "the way things have traditionally been is better". This is an oversimplification, but it is a real tendency. In the past, homosexuality was publicly unacceptable, now it's becoming more so. That's change. It's natural that an anti-change mindset would oppose it. From a high-level perspective, both the desire for change and the desire to conserve the tried-and-true ways of the past have their value, you can't throw out either one of them. Our job as citizens is to strike a balance, to have some intelligence about when to hold on to what works, and when to toss out the old and bring in the new. It takes a while for the old to get tossed out, and that's what we're seeing in the resistance to gay rights.

I'm all for gays, and I'm all for the don't ask don't tell policy, because they have so many of the same sex in the same place and can't be worrying about sexual harrasment, and they have no other way to solve it, because they can't put a gay man with the women or vise-versa. So until everyone in the world can be sexually open like some of us, I think its a good problem solver. I don't think it means he's against gays, he just doesn't have a solution, so he'd rather people just not say.

Hi i would just like to clear a fewe points up, im military my self but not GAY the military have a torlerant and is now legal in the armed forces, i knowe a few people who are GAY and have married within the forces so all the crap of dont ask dont tell is rubish personnally it dont bother me if people choose to be that inclined thats up to them.
-
Is a Don't Ask Don't Tell policy really an anti-gay policy? I've always seen it as a concession on the militarys part to allow gay and lesbian men/women to serve without making an issue of it.
-
nope they are all arseholes, except Ron Paul, he's cool
-
I never thought that "dont ask dont tell" was an anti-gay slogan. I have absolutely no problem with this and i consider myself a democrat. I feel that if someone wants to join the military then they can no matter what, and sexual orientation should never be an issue, and this is a way to make sure that it never becomes one.
-
Arseholes!! I 'm not going to waste my breath on them or any other homophobic fools, its the 21st century so maybe its about time they got their minds around it and started to think like a modern humans and stop thinking like a repressed religious bigots who still is in the 17th century

Even with its high profile progressive pockets, the US is a very conservative nation. Republicans, being typically conservative when it comes to gay rights and family values either know where their votes come from or truly hold a value system that doesn't allow equal rights for gays. When an early platform was offered by the LOGO channel (a largely gay-themed network) for the candidates to discuss gay rights and marrriage, every single Republican declined to appear. Unfortunately, it's an issue that continues to divide the parties.

The issue is all about diversity. One of these days Republicans are going to wake up and suddenly find that excluding people is not good for a workforce. By narrowing a pool of applicants, you exclude a lot of well-qualified applicants. There have been many gay heroes in the military both from the United States and across the worls. Many other countries have already figured this out and gays serve openly and honorably in their armed forces. Discriminating against our gay brothers and sisters is not just immoral. It is bad for the military. It is not surprising that McCain does not want change on this matter!
-
I'm not anti-gay.
-
I think thats a great idea, and before the negative points come wafting in, I'm a lesbian.
-
i'm repulican but i am pro gay, i think there should be more of them. ;)

Seriously, why would ANYONE be okay with McCain? Who cares if he worships Gay people? He's lying. This right-wing fundamentalist group of head in the sand dinosaurs have got to go. We've been crying for this since the '60's. Please don't make this country wait for another 4 years. Time is running out. We need people who care about keeping the planet healthy. We need people who understand that this entire world consists of the brotherhood of man, not the importance of me, me, me. If you are gay, bless you. If you are not, mind your own business about other people's choices. I am not gay and I have coexisted with my gay brothers and sisters just fine. I happen to know the world would be very bleak without this representation of humanity. God made everyone. What kind of God would pick and choose a superior type of person? Oh yeah, Adolph Hitler. He was another leader who thought himself superior just like our fundamentalist friends here in America who really belive God is on their side. SICK God doesn't have a side that's why God is God.

The British Navy encourages gays to serve because they make better sailors and they stay in their service longer so obviously having openly gay people in the military can work and work well. Republicans are not all assholes, but the people who try to use the government to try to force their religious beliefs onto other people are assholes. IMHO Republicans are throwing away a lot of potential votes by doing this and for no good reason. Today things have degraded to the point where anyone who is pro gay or even pro choice has no choice but to vote for the least experienced candidate. It was not like this a generation ago when you actually could vote on real issues. Contrary to popular belief, this country is not a theocracy, and so religion and politics should have nothing to do with each other. Our leaders have serious problems to fix and they really don't have the time for this crap. I changed my party affiliation years ago (to Libertarian not Democrat) because I simply do not believe in legislating morality. Not only does it not work (abstinence education has caused an increase in teen pregnancies for example just one of many), but it curtails our freedoms, and worst of all it creates a smokescreen that allows our leaders to get away with a lot of other things while that we should not let them do (like corporate welfare, lobbyist buying legislators, etc.) while we all argue and waste our attention these divisive issues. You don't see Jews trying to make pork illegal. You don't see Hindus trying to legislate vegetarianism. They don't bomb the McDonald's do they? No, they just follow their own beliefs quietly leave everyone else alone. If you are a Christian and you don't believe in abortion then don't have one, but don't tell me I can't have one. Let god judge me in the hereafter and condemn me to hell when I die. Isn't that enough for you? Your bible says "judge not lest ye be judged" Maybe you should read that verse and stop judging your fellow citizens lifestyle choices. God gave us freewill so why do you want to take that away? Live your own life as you believe and shut the fuck up. You don't see Jews trying to take away your sausage or bacon do you? Can't you all see that this country is going to hell in a hand basket while you argue about legislating morality? We need to talk about the real issues? Can anything be done to stabilize the economy? to educate children? to reduce crime? BTW I am a born again Christian. I am just not one of those vociferous idiots. I am almost ashamed to call myself a Christian because these people are hell bent on hijacking our government to increase their power and influence. I simply believe in the separation of church and state. Did we forget about that supreme court decision? If you hate gays then you need to throw away your King James Version, KJV, because well first of all King James was bisexual and so was Constantine for that matter, but mostly because it is the worst translation ever it was written by the British government to make it easier to control people. It was written with political motivations, and if you didn't notice all of these assholes do use the KJV. Can you see that you are being hoodwinked people? I will give my boyfriends left nut to any true bible scholar who can prove to me that in the original scriptures that god had a problem with homos. Back to abortion do we really want to go back to what we had before 1973? Do we really want to have young women bleeding to death and getting nasty infections instead of going to a safe, clean doctor's office? Because that is what will happen. Abortions still happened a lot when they were illegal. Many young women suffered and died needlessly. Is this what god wants? Does god want us to bomb the clinic or to shoot the doctor? Is that holy? Making something illegal does not make it go away. If you try to make sin illegal then more harm will be done and more people will be in jail for no good reason (and the taxpayers will foot the bill). You can't make human vices go away. It has to be left up to the individual's freewill. Pray for the sinner. Do not write to your congressman about the sinner instead of praying for him/her. Is there a verse in your KJV that tells you to try to legislate morality? Can someone tell me which verse it is? We should concentrate on harm reduction and sound fiscal and prudent economic policies and move away from religious issues because they have no place in our government.
