Definitely overhyped. He was really truly influential only in the 50s--possibily even for a year or two. After that, he lost credibility with those who would go on to shape rock music. If anyone gets that title, it should be the Beatles (or maybe the Rolling Stones) collectively.

True King. He reshaped American music. What he was doing was not done at that level yet.

He was like Michael Jordan at his best playing high school teams. He was Gretzky playing Mighty Tykes Hockey.

Early Elvis was the King no doubt about that at all... even in 1968 he still had it ( the comeback special proved that ), after that he did go down hill in my books

I dont even like Elvis, but if it wasnt for him we might all still be listening to country ackkkkk, he did steal his music but he is the one that introduced it to the whites and made it start to actually take off.

Overhyped. In the end he couldn't even hardly sing or stay upright on stage.

Over-hyped Hack every song he did was a cover of a black artist who couldn't get played on mainstream radio during that time period. Most of whom died penniless and unrecognized.
If Elvis wasn't dead I'd like to punch him in the nose.

Elvis was totally over hyped,he could'nt be the king because he did'nt invent ROCK-N-ROLL,he just copied people like wynonnie Harris ,Little Richard, and other's,however I will say from a cultural aspect most white american's would see him as king because they had never seen a white man dance and sing in a R & B style. some may even say Elvis was a modern day minstrel....

His brand of music takes an acquired taste.
