  • God commanded that: "Blessed is the man ... that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it." "Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, ... every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer ... for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people." Isaiah 56:2, 6, 7. Apostles taught it: "And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath." "And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God." Acts 13:42, 44, emphasis added. "And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks." Acts 18:4. The apostles taught the Gentiles to keep the Sabbath holy. The apostles in the early New Testament church not only obeyed God's Sabbath command, but they also taught the converted Gentiles to worship on Sabbath. Never once do they refer to first day of the week as a holy day.
  • The command to keep Sabbath holy was commanded specifically to the jews as said in the Talmud - the Tractate of Sanhedrin (judges): "A gentile that keeps the Sabbath holy is sentenced to death" Of course gentiles are welcome to rest on the Sabbath but to keep it holy with all the Halachot (the jewish laws) is forbbiden. I assure you that very little people actually do it because it is very complicated and it demands a lot of studying...
  • Moses did not write The 10 Commandments, God did(literally, Exodus31:18), and they will stand for ALL mankind . The first 4 Commandments are for our relationship to God. The 6 remaining are for our relationship to Man. Barbara
  • Thanks , and I do respect the above. We should respect(honor the jews)the sabbath. This does not mean I can by any long shot celibrate services as they did.It is so complicated. And per the above: The first church worshiped every day in homes of fellow christians. To get technical. Is it OK to attend services on friday night ? jewish Sabbath really starts fri eve at sun down. OR, A milk cow farmer use to milk 7 days a week and some still do,and sometimes just cant make it every service. Or if I am forced to work on the sabbath is it OK for me to mis services and attend on an other day. Or if I am to honor my parents and they traditionally attend on sunday is this acceptable. Catholics have a sat service.Does this make them better?.And if I did attend the catholic services should I/they be justfied with many statues which break the 1st/2nd commandment? Thou shalt not make graven images. Are we not set free from the curse of the law in Christ Jesus. Is not every day now a celebration of Christ. If I honor the sabbath but break any other law, am I not guilty. Thank you
  • In Colossians 2:16-17, the Apostle Paul declared, “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” Similarly, Romans 14:5 says, “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.” These Scriptures make it clear that, for the Christian, Sabbath-keeping is a matter of spiritual freedom, not a command from God. Sabbath-keeping is an issue on which God’s Word instructs us not to judge each other. Sabbath-keeping is a matter that each and every Christian needs to by fully convinced of in his/her own mind. Is there anything wrong with worshipping on Saturday, the Sabbath? Absolutely not! We should worship God every day, not just on Saturday or Sunday! Many churches today have both Saturday and Sunday services. There is freedom in Christ (Romans 8:21; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:1). Should a Christian practice Sabbath-keeping, that is, not working on Saturdays? If a Christian feels led to do so, absolutely, yes (Romans 14:5). However, those who choose to practice Sabbath-keeping should not judge those who do not keep the Sabbath (Colossians 2:16). The Sabbath was given to Israel, not the church. The Sabbath is still Saturday, not Sunday, and has never been changed. But the Sabbath is part of the Old Testament Law, and Christians are free from the bondage of the Law.
