  • you already asked this!
  • If you're going to be THAT particular about the party you like answering your questions, I am SURE you can find the local Police Department and a plethora of lawyers in your local Yellow Pages who would be MORE than happy to listen to your questions.
  • If you want such exact answers, I would suggest you check out the largest database of information in the world. google.com
  • Once you post a question in an open forum, you have absolutely no say so about who chooses to answer it.
  • I don't care if they are spring loaded or not, they are simply knives and no law can make them otherwise. I will say this, COPS, and ESPECIALLY Lawyers are no more qualified to answer a question than any private citizen. The idea that cops have a special status is insulting to me. Knives are sold openly in gun stores, hardware stores, sporting goods stores, K, and WalMarts. The idea that any knife is illegal is a matter of what a police can make you believe while he is slapping the cuffs on you. Make him show you the law printed in the book. Better yet, go to the law library at the State house or State Library and get a copy of the laws pertaining to knives and print a copy, fold it up and tape it to the knife, that way when they bust you for contraband, your attorney has an easy job of explaining how the LAW was ignored and your arrest was illegal. You will be acquitted.
  • There is no such thing as a "Semi automatic" knife. Automatic knives, or switchblades, currently may ONLY be possessed or owned in Indiana by military personnel authorized by their unit. Not even cops may own them, though a lot of cops will argue the point. There are current attempts to change the legislation to make them legal. Possession is a Class A misdemeanor, though unless you carry it about with you, no one is going to know if you have one at home. This information is from Indiana Code, and available online. I've also been a dealer in blades and police supplies for 18 years, and am a veteran of various units, including two IN NG units. I hope my credentials will satisfy you.
  • JohnOBonno: You're an idiot. Whether or not you like the laws, violating them will get you in jail. While cops are not qualified per se, they often have relevant experience (though in this case most of them are not clear). You may not care if they are spring loaded, but the law DOES. There is a prescribed penalty for possessing such. The text is very clear and if you print it out you will see: IN: Knife with blade that opens automatically or may be propelled Sec. 2. It is a Class B misdemeanor for a person to manufacture, possess, display, offer, sell, lend, give away, or purchase any knife with a blade that: (1) opens automatically; or (2) may be propelled; by hand pressure applied to a button, device containing gas, spring, or other device in the handle of the knife. As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32. Amended by P.L.70-2000, SEC.2. Lawyers are certainly qualified by dint of (now let's look at this word) being LAWyers. They have reference books, current copies of statutes, and list of phone numbers of relevant state agencies. In 22 states, switchblades are illegal. Federal law prohibits the importation and interstate commerce of them (though not possession). Your sillyass opinion is going to get the cuffs slapped on you, while they read the relevant text and explain how you were violating the law. (NOTE: I had incorrectly remembered Class A. It appears to be Class B.)
