  • Ticket scalping and brokering laws differ from state to state. The guidelines for ticket scalpers are usually just "you can't scalp close to the event" or " must not be within 1000 feet of event". "Big venues like Madison Square Garden are most concerned about rampant street scalping and have pushed for increasing the no scalp zone from 1,000 to 1,500 feet." Ticket brokers do have some restrictions though. Some states say the broker can't resell the tickets for 50% above the box office price. Some states say the broker can't resell the tickets for 10% above box office. Illinois doesn't have a price cap on the resell price at all. my Research: http://www.gothamgazette.com/iotw/tickets/
  • At least 15 states prohibit the resale of tickets to sporting and entertainment events for a price greater than face value, according to information compiled by the National Conference of State Legislatures. NCSL has compiled a listing of ticket scalping laws across the country. According to researcher Janna Goodwin, at least seven states consider reselling tickets a crime unless the seller has a license to broker tickets. Some cities have municipal regulations against ticket brokering, although state law does not expressly prohibit it, she says. In almost all instances where ticket scalping is prohibited, the offense is a misdemeanor.
