What decision making process do you go through before you decide who to vote for in an election?

unfortunately i am not political.. i pick the names that look good.. or most recently i picked the independent candidate that gave me a HUGE smile as he was putting up a sign.. and no the smile did not look fake! he looked happy to be doing what he was doing!

I read the newspapers, listen to the radio, read the election addresses. I have even occasionally obtained the manifestos and attempted (unsuccessfully) to read them. I compare, contrast, and criticise. And then I go and vote for the same party every bloody time. I don't know why I bother,
