I have had a canon camera and i can say that it is awsome. Takes great pictures. I have never used a fuji camera, but, i have found that fuji film is very low quality.
-
To a great extent it's a matter of taste, but I would go for a Canon.

I wouldn't be able to say much, but I have a Canon. I'm not an extreme picture taker but for me, Canon has worked.

I currently shoot with Canon cameras, but I have owned a Fuji in the past. The good thing about Canon's is that most of them (if not all of them) use Compact Flash Type II, which is inexpensive, non-proprietary, and readily available at most electronics departments of any major department store. I was happy with the quality of images I was getting from the Fuji I owned, but I'm even happier with the quality I'm getting from the Canon 40d I own now. I think the main thing anyone looking to purchase a new digital camera should do is research the models you are interested in at websites like Dpreview.com ( http://www.dpreview.com ) and ask a lot of questions at photography based forums like FotoZumi.com ( http://www.fotozumi.com ). Talk to people that own the cameras your interested in and find out what they like and dislike about it, and if you can try to find a local retailer that has the cameras you're interested in and go hold them and see which feels better to you.

Canon is my preference, Ive found that all the other pros that ive met use Canon as their brand of choice, thats if they are using a 35mm SLR. Ive never really come accross a "good" fuji camera. I think Canon takes the prize :)

I used to have a Fuji camera. The LCD stopped working after a year (good thing it was set on the best quality setting), and without a screen it doesn't function any better than a film camera while in the field. My mom had received a Fuji camera as well, and the screen on it would periodically produce a flipped image. Now I wish I had something to use my defunct Fuji's XD memory cards for.

i have a point and shoot fuji camera, it takes AWESOME shots! i know ur going for dslr type cams, but i thought i would let you know. here is a link to some of my pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dcfups/ although fuji is great quality, i would recommend canon. they have been in the business longer and lots of pros would recommend canon over fuji.

Canon is definitely the better brand. I've found that the image quality and color is much better.
