That can be caused by a number of things.

If your mouse is a ball mouse, it might just be dirty, but usually dirty mice do the opposite and just stick

If your mouse is an optical mouse try switching the surface you work on. If I use my mouse on my wooden kitchen table it'll "scoot" as well, but is fine if i'm on a piece of paper.

Could be a defective mouse where a part is loose/shorting and making it skip.

Could be the batteries are going if it's a wireless.

Is it a cordless mouse containing batteries, if so these might need replacing, another thing that occurred with my mouse & sender unit was that the sender unit (that plugs into the USB)needed to be roughly 19 inches apart

    Thankkx!
I posed this question originally and I discovered two things. One I changed the brand of mouse and yes it was an optical mouse and two I went to a different motherboard/memory combination. I'm not astute enough to tell if it was the memory but I found that the less expensive mouse on the market is not always the best performance. You get what you pay for.

I had the same problem with my mouse when i first bought windows xp. I brought it back to where i bought it and then got it replaced. They told me that it was defective. When i hooked the new mouse up to my pc i didnt have the problem anymore. Thats all i can tell you.

It all depends on the mouse you are using... A field mouse has more of a tendency of running than a domestic mouse... Get my point?

Have you considered that your mouse is one of the "3 blind mice" and he is trying to run away from y'r carving knife? Wanna hear another tale?
