No, neither does UFO's, ghosts, vampires, chupacabres, psychics, bigfoot, witches, elves or any of the other nonsense people "claim" to have seen.

This is the equivalent of asking "Does Bigfoot exist?" & "Are there such things as aliens?" The scientific community hasn't confirmed or denied the existance of The Loch Ness Monster, that doesnt mean that it doesn't exist, just that no irrefutable evidence has been supplied. So, in the absence of irrefutable evidence (verified through scientific means) I would have to say no it doesn't exist. This of course is only my opinion for more information google The Loch Ness Monster and look at some of the hundreds of sites devoted to prooving or refuting this topic and judge the evidence for yourself, that how I came to my conclusion.

    ***********************************************
...come on Answers, theres no need to be like that, this is an opinion type question, I adressed the evidence that is available, it is up to the individual researcher to decide which evidence is most dependable! They may even have a different answer than me, and I couldn't even knock that! Their view would still be useful, that's the whole allure of this topic, it's a mystery, no one knows. If there was irrfutable evidence, The Loch Ness Monster would be stated as fact by the scientific community...It isn't. You can even tell that by the name, any scientist who would name a creature "The Loch Ness Monster" would need to have his head checked, he would lose all of his credibility! If a new species was discovered it would be named according to distinguishing features (dorsal fin, webbed feet, mammal, reptile, amphibian etc) by scientists, the problem here is ...no one has EVER seen one up close to name ANY distinguishing features!!! Some grainy photos proove nothing. Did you ever see the video footage?!?!?! Aweful! Now if I were the person who shot the pictures and footage and I was looking to cash in, I would have to come up with a scientific name for the beast, something that would give the animal some credibility. I'd suggest a more scientific sounding name myself if I could but I can't I'm not a scientist, I'm like the guy with the camera, the best an average joe like myself could come up with would be...err...um...The Loch Ness Monster!!!

People are always so quick to say NO NO NO, why can't we still have something left that we can't explain???

I thinks it's fun to believe that it does. So I say YES!

There's no credible evidence to suggest it is.

Every bit of evidence that's been presented to date has been either a flat-out hoax or highly dubious.

Sure they're real Zedzy ! I saw 3 Nessies in 1993. It was definitely a Mr and Mrs Nessie and a little Nipper Nessie. I dunno if the Nipper Nessie was a little fella Nessie or a girl one. They were mucking about in the shallows near the shoreline with a Gorilla in the Mist ! It always seems misty up at Loch Ness. That's why I realise how incredibly lucky I was to witness not only just 1 Nessie, but 3 of 'em AND a Gorilla at the same time.
I've also visited Gnomes in their Homes and once I had a triffik time at a Leprechaun's Village in North Queensland.....Although I think that might have happened because I'd ingested an enormously big heap of Gold Top Magic Mushies......Uhmm, in fact, come to think of it, I'm positive about that now !.........yum !,yum !,yum !,....."wow, look at that, the moon's bleeding rainbows of coloured love !!"
Unfortunately there is one thing that pisses me off about Magic Mushies and Dropping Acid Tabs.
Do you know what it is ?

I is very possible.Scientists have found oceans of water under lakes and our seas and oceans. There is tunnels and caves that interconnect the two and prehistoric water mammals can travel from one to the other.Ocean fishermen are constantly catching fish and mammals that we would consider monsters.

I would say that there is no living loch ness monster today. for a species to survive long term there must be a population. if there were a population of plesiosaur like animals in loch ness modern technology would have been capable of obtaining hard proof.
such a creature (head to body size) would be required to breathe air. this means no hibernating in underwater caves. loch ness is small enough that if there were a population of active animals larger than a sturgeon they would have been found by now

I think not, not a prehistoric species at least. Studies have shown that there is little food in it to support any viable populationo f creatures this size. Also, as Loch Ness and Scotland were covered in a thick ice sheet during the last ice age up to 12,000 years ago, it wouldnt have survived anyway . The most feasable candidate for a monster is thought to a large sturgeon fish.

The lake has also undergone extensive scanning from sonar which yieldied no results.

No. The food chain in Loch Ness is such that it could not sustain a creature of Nessie's purported size.

Yes! I believe some scientists are speculating highly about when they can see it and such...You should read some paranormal interest magazines and see what they have to say! :)

It all depends upon one classifies as being a "Monster"...
Believe that majority of the sightings over the years have been either common things, like waves, otters etc that have been misuunderstood by the eyewitnesses, but do believe that there have been a few sctual encounters with something in Loch Ness..

My best guess is that it could either be something like a Giant Eel, or else it is an "extinct" Whale, or else a large seal type creature.

Believe that IF it exists, it would not be a "dinosaur" that survived to present age, but can see it being one of the above Mammals, or else a Giant Eel creature.

Also, a lot of this hinges on if you buy into the "millions and millions" of years of Evolution, or if you believe in a much younger time frame based upon scientific evidence. Since I DO buy into there being only several thousands of years, not Millions of years, than it is quite plausible that some type of large mammilian creature was able to survive into the present time.
If you look at say the "Monster" at Lake Champlain, it does look much like what was considered to have been an "extinct" Whale native to that area....
