If you are a heavy net surfer, I would use NAV - Norton Anti Virus and it's many cronies er...additional packaged programs. NAV can spot worms, trojans, viruses and such, due to the fact that IT is in ITSELF a VIRUS - it infects your entire computer and is not willing to share it's elbow-room with any other viruses, hence alerting you to their presence. It is so in-depth that if/when you decide to remove it, you have to downlaod a seperate program from norton in order to remove the files NOT removed by the Add or Remove Program option! I use it on several of my rigs and have been fortunate to have been able to disenfect several viruses as well as quarantine several trojan horses. the patch constatly and are reliable. just my $0.02 Another useful site for programs is PC Pitstop - they are FREE and useful in speeding up your 'puter and clearing the clutter. They play well with NAV too! ;) http://www.symantec.com/index.jsp http://pcpitstop.com/

my friends friend is a programmer, and he sent viruses on to his own computer and avg did not detetct all of the viruses, so thats why he told me to remove it.

I have Ad-Aware (or whatever the updated name is), and Norton. At work we have NOD32, and Kapersky. You get better results with a pay one that keeps itself updated automatically than with the free ones, though free ones are a good way to start.
