The first major conflict was Korea (50-53)but there were smaller conflicts resulting from former colonies striving for Independence. One of these was the former Dutch East Indies declaring Independence on 17th August 1945. This led to an invasion of Dutch troops in 1946 and struggle between local people and the former colonial regime until international opposition pushed the Dutch into negotiations with the Indonesian government under the eyes of the UN. Independence was ratified in 1949.
