Japan also has "pay parking" bicycle racks where you must pay about a dollar to lock your bike in public racks or your bike will be removed. Have you seen anything like this?

I heard in Paris they have a system of public bicycles. You pick one up on one corner, pay a couple bucks, and get some of it back when you drop your bike off at your destination. Talk about your green alternatives! I love both these ideas.

No I have never seen this. At the labs near my town there are free public* bikes so people can get between buildings quickly. *by public I mean anyone allowed in the labs.

No, but I guess if it's a major form of transportation in that city it's the same as parking meters here in the states. They'll get you one way or another I guess...
