  • It depends on how you define "best." Dell's XPS line is the highest performance line of computers, both in desktop, and laptop models. A desktop model will cost less and can be upgraded at home. However, in my opinion, any model you buy from Dell is the best value for the money. I've been using Dell brand computers at home for 10+ years. I use their "high end" Inspiron lap top models, purchased at a discount through their refurbished store. In today's catalog, that would be an E1705. What is best for you depends on what you are looking for. Factors to consider are screen size, amount of RAM memory, video memory, and the speed and type of CPU. Hard disks are so big now that I've never used mine all up, but hard disk come in fast and faster models now. A final consideration is support. Whatever model you are looking at, check out the user and community websites. Dell support has moved to India, while I think their gear keeps getting better, I now rely on community and user forums for support, as I have been very frustrated by Dell support in the past few years.
  • Defining "Best" as the most powerful, The best Dell computer model is the XPS 600 Renegade Gaming computer. The Renegade is the first system in the world to feature the brand new NVIDIA® Quad SLI Technology. The system combines for GPU's (graphics processing unit) for a total of 2 Gigabytes of graphics memory. Dell overclocked the Renegade's processor at an insane 4.26 Ghz! This system is faster and more powerful than any other Dell system to date, and therefore is the "best"!
  • In my opinion, most Dell computers are pieces of junk. Generally if you buy an expensive computer (eg. more than $1200) then you may have something from them. But if you can't afford that then I highly reccomend getting something that you can upgrade to customise to you needs. I
  • In answer to the person who said all Dells are a piece of junk: While I won't argue that many people have that opinion, there are just as many who do not. It's all about perspective. A person who has specific needs and expectations about a computer and its performance, upgradeability, etc. may be disappointed with certain models of Dell. But someone who doesn't know any better is going to see the price and think, "Wow! What a great deal, and they'll fix it too!" These same people may keep a Dell for 3-5 years and have no issues whatsoever, in which case the statement "Dells are junk" is meaningless to them. It's all about whether the product meets your needs and expectations. I would never buy a Dell (I have very specific tastes / needs and I don't need support). But my wife would be perfectly happy with one. Our neighbours were happy too. Always get more than a few opinions before making a purchase decision.
  • Dell being the best computer company in the world has tons of great computers but it all depends for the family: inspiron desktop for a person in the family: inspiron laptop for office use: Vostro For something that won't break down: latitude for something that combine quality features performence and speed: XPS for something stylish: Adamo For something a bit cheaper than a XPS: studio
  • In answer to all who say that Dells are junk: It's true, Dells are junk but so are every other "brand-in-a-box" desktop pc you can buy. They are overpriced and not upgrade-friendly. The best thing to do is to go to your local computer store and ask them to build you one. You can be sure of the parts going in and upgrades are much easier.
