  • Dell computers are no better or worse than other computers.
  • I have been in the computer repair business since 1988. I can only answer from experience, and I must assume you are posing this question in generalities. I can't tell if you're asking how good the customer service is, if the product itself is reliable, or if you want to work for the company, and are wanting to compare salary/benefit packages between the four companies? As far as reliability of the product, I have to give Dell the thumbs-up. The problem with all four of these companies is that their products are very proprietary, meaning that if the motherboard or power supply die on you, you have to go back to them to get a replacement part. With a generic PC, you can go down to Circuit City, and they'll have a replacement part hanging on the wall, or you can go to the big discount houses and save a ton of money. HP and Dell seem to be the most reliable of these four. As far as Compaq goes, it's my opinion that I would not give 25 cents for one in working condition. Never heard of Lenovo, we must not have that brand around here. Dell first, HP second, and Compaq last. I can't answer for Lenovo since I'm unfamiliar with their products.
  • If you want a Yugo Computer then get a Dell, they usualy have minimal memory and lots of crap because they are getting a "software bundle" that's basically usless and the operating system has been messed with by there develpers that it is not verry stable, I actually junked on after a year and a dozen repairs. they offered to replace it and i declined, they were flustered but unfortunatly the person handling the claim was in SINAPOR! trying to deal off the help list on there terminal and having practically no computer knolage. Don't try to use any of the hardware on another computer because it likely won't work, something built into the board on the HDD, CDROM, VID CARD and anything else makes it usless. you cant even put the stuff into a newer DELL, the drivers wont work so you have to call and spend more $$$. i ended up building my own and it does more with less speed than the crappy DELL in pieces in the garage!
  • Dell is a very reliable company offering informative and helpful tech support and tend not to brake down due to malfunctions, least not often. Dell is a very good choice if you have basic computing needs, If you needed special functions you should look at other sources, for instance Alienware is known for it's amazing lap tops and gaming computers. I'd rate Dell higher than Lenovo. and as far as i know i think compaq and hp combined. Either way i wouldn't suggest them, because Compaqs seem to wear down at a faster rate. I'm basing that statement on my own personal experience with 2 compaq's and from friends who've had compaqs with problems Dell also has many options for upgrades during the purchasing stages of your computer, however many Dells remain as they come and can not be upgraded later, well, at least with larger componenets like the processor.
  • Disclaimer: I am absolutely NOT a computer expert! Now, I had a computer for 4-5 years that was reliable and the most stable computer I ever worked on. Interestingly enough (in light of the comments here), it was a Compaq. My only problem was that it had a 2G harddrive, which was fine in its time, but obviously sort of useless nowadays. Ahhh, computers... Anyhow, I have a Dell right now, and it seems to do fine.
  • I'm a business operator with 130 employees and a turnover of $10m+ per annum. We run a 40 PC computer system. We recently upgraded from Compaqs that were installed 11 years ago (pre y2k - remember that!). We obtained quotes from various manufacturers including Dell but ended up with all HP product. In the main, it was cheaper given that we also went for an HP server. However, I got very frustrated with Dell sales people. Their quotes are impossible to decifer, their prices not clearly stated and as to the attitude - well I gave up with them just on that in the end. We are very happy with HP product and have no problems - but it would be fair to say that we would probably feel the same about Dell had we bought their product. They are must of a muchness and, at the end of the day, it all comes down to price - at least it did for us anyway. Cheers.
  • My first CP was an HP. Boy did I have problem galore. Perhaps it was just a LEMON machine but it has left me very wary of HP machines. Had a Toshiba laptop and now have a Dell as well as a Dell Desktop. To sum up: Toshiba I believe is good but pricy. Dell I feel are pretty good!
  • you have to go with dell they are better and more reliable.
  • I work for a IT solutions provider. We sell majour brands like HP and lenovo. From my many customers experience, Compaq is garbage. HP is a solid machine. The good thing about HP is that every single machine with the same model number is built exactly the same (same motherboard same video card... etc...) where dell uses the cheepes parts on the market and if intel has cheep boards when they are looking, then they put in intel motherboards that week, if Asus is the one with the best price then they go with Asus, so it is possible that you can buy the exact machine from dell 1 month apart and it will be a totally different machine with the same specs. Dell laptops are cheeply priced cause they are cheep mahines. drop it and you will see. Lenovo bought out IBMs laptop devision and is working on the desktop devision. Lenovo laptops are one of the most durable pieces of electronics I have ever seen, I have seen the cage they put in the laptop to protect it and it is nuts. They frame they put in behind the screen is very strong. Lenovo finger print readers are the only one on the market that are truley secured even if the chip holding your information is put on someone elses computer, as well as the features for security. If you remove a Lenovo laptop hard drive it will not work in another laptop (but this is an add-on). Dell laptops are plastic... need I say more. You are buying a piece of equiment to make your life easy, invest a little more, and get a good machine. Best in desktops: HP Best in Laptops: Lenovo Best in Servers: HP (windows based)
  • I have a dell laptop (which I am on right now) and it works great. All of these brands have a good reputation, except I know that HP graphics calculators fail easily (from my own and my friends experience anyway). I have never used a lenovo or compaq computer, so I cannot judge against those two. HP computers are fine, but tend to be more for business rather then entertainment or multimedia. Dell does everything quite well.
  • First off for your dell haters out there who arent answering his question, but just ranting about it, than stfu your annoyiong as hell and you obviously dont know shit because ive never heard somebody have a bad comment towards dell, while hp and compaq is a whole nother issue. Lots of people get those computers usually because they are cheap and people are obviously cheap little basterds. But that doesnt mean the system is good, and when its all said and done the system wears down and just flat out sucks. While dell when ive had a dell system for 5 years it in the 5 year span never wore down and still hasnt(according to the owner of it atm), so my point is it seems as though toughness the dell kicks ass, same for price i just cant say no to it. When you try buying a hp or compaq the price seems fine until wait....it doesnt include a monitor! Who's the cheap basterds? Id say hp,compaq, and gateway are. And for the guy commenting earlier about how great hp is,we all know you work for them but please we dont wanna hear a shit load of lies just so people on here buy one because nobody will. If you were lazy to read the truth above than i will sum it up for you:Unless your retarded and wish on spending more for less, than get a hp/compaq/gateway,but but but if you want a durable, cheap(and not shitty system),and efficient system than get a dell. You will love it,but don't listen to me,just see how many rewards they get compared to other companies.
