Diamonds are a girl's best friend. A dog is a man's best friend. Where did these sayings come from, and gain popularity? Are they true?

    Humans have a tendency to criticize others, be prejudice, racist, back-stabbing, criminal personalities, murder and maim each other, etc. Dogs are very loyal and will protect their owner with everything they have whether they are little to large dogs. They accept their owner without question and it doesn't matter if you are crippled, blind, homely, old, young, etc. All the dog sees (if you treat it right and share that love) is you are it's world!

    Diamonds last 4-ever. They are a true beauty, they make anyone feel good to wear them, they only increase in value, and they are worth the money spent. Marilyn Monroe, made this a famous saying. A best friend, loves you no matter what's going on. And your dog is always waiting for you to come home, and never talks you to death, never asks where you've been, a dog just wants alittle attention now and then and to be feed and watered. Yes, in this regard it's true.

    I don't understand the diamond thing, unless it means women are gold diggers.
    I do understand how dogs are mans best friends. They are very loyal and they protect us. I just read a story of how a police dog protected an officer after a car accident, the officer was injured and passed out and the dog lied atop of the officer. The dog then died.
    I also heard it has something to do with 'dominant males'.
