Open the lines of communication by telling this person how you feel and that you strongly disagree with their behavior. Explain to them why you are having problems with them. I hope this helps!

I had this happen once. It was very frustrating. Here's my advice: Save all the evidence, and cut off unregulated communications as much as possible. Save the emails. Try copying all the emails you send to someone like a supervisor or a coworker that you're both cool with, including all of the previous thread. Only interact with the person in situations where there will be witnesses. Like a meeting, where you would have allies. Basically, by making every interaction a public one you make it harder for a backstabber to operate. Stay above the fray. You don't want to get a reputation as someone who gets into conflict with their coworkers. So be perfectly nice to this person even if you hate their guts. This doesn't mean you ignore what's happening, but treat it like the immature annoyance it is - you have more important things to do, like get your work done. Added bonus: if this person is trying to drag you down into the dirt, staying pleasant will drive them nuts. If there are any intermediaries you can deal with instead of this person, do that, and make an extra effort to get along with them. Reducing contact with the backstabber and forging new coworker relationships will improve your position in the office and make it a whole lot more pleasant, too. Wait it out. Typically such a person will shoot themselves in the foot eventually, so don't do anything rash. The backstabber will either find a new target that might have more power to do something about the situation, escalate their activities to the point that other people will notice, or screw something up badly in the process. I've seen this happen.

All you can do is watch your back and be patient. Usually folks like this wind up screwing themselves over. Case in point: I worked with a twit like this years ago. One afternoon I walked into a restaraunt/bar with a client, and low and behold.. Who else was sitting there playing kissy face with a woman who was not his wife, but Mr Twit.. Yes !! There is a God !! From that moment on , I had him by the B**LS , and that was the end of his little games.

Be extremely kind to them, their conscience will eat them. Have you ever heard the expression "Kill them with kindness".

What I did was to get a big piece of paper and paint a target on it with the logo, ""Stab Here." and I pinned it to my back as we all went into a staff meeting.

What comes around goes around. Karmah is a beotch so don't mess with her and try to get even with the back-stabber at work. People at work don't give a damn.
