My 15 year old part Siamese male cat is acting like he's on catnip, but there's no catnip in the house. Could he be reacting to mold, or to something else?

Is your kitty also eating more? If so, it is most likely a thyroid problem. This happens in cats and dogs - usually after 13 years old. My Siamese did the same thing at 14 and our very smart vet told us about this. She had her T-4's done and this is exactly what it was. You have 3 options. Oral Medication twice a day for the rest of her life (which mine was allergic to); surgery to remove the thyroid; or Radioactive Iodine Therapy (which I had done to mine last year). This was pricey but has now probably prolonged her life by years and she is totally healthy and happy. BTW - Apparently Siamese and Himalayan kitties have quirky thyroids....my specialist says that he wants to write a paper on their reactions but cannot gather enough stable evidence in either breed.

Cats get hyper or playful just like people do.

His age. I've seen this same behavior in two of my own 20 yr old cats. They begin behaving like they're kittens again.
