  • First you would need a spray booth so as not to polute the enviroment, Then you would need masking paper and 3/4 inch tape, sandpaper, anticorrosive primer, primer filler, sealer, paint and reducer, clearcoat, spray mask so as not breath in any chemicals that are hazardous to your health. I'd advise you to take it to your local bodyshop and have it done professionally and it wuld be a lot cheaper. It is a highly skilled position to make a paint job look good and better to leave it to the professionals. Collision Manager of Ford Deraler in NC
  • I disagree, a little bit of talking with your local paint supplier on a non busy day will provide you with a PLETHORA of good knowledge. I first recomend having your paint mixed by matching your VIN or vehicle identification number at the paint shop have them recomend a decent paint gun but explain this is not your career. I picked up an excellent HVLP or high volume low pressure (HVLP)gun at my local shop for around 140 dollars since I already had a GOOD not one of those paper mask but a good mask. I also bought a suit for a few bucks since some of the paint chemicals can be absorbed in through the skin. Ground your work if it is metal a good idea is to lightly spray your garage floor and let it dry as to get rid of as much dust as possible. ENSURE your subject or item you are painting is prepped - aka primed and sanded properly. The paint shop will inform you on the proper reducer and they have simple cups to make mixing a breeze. TAPE off all that you don't want overspray on the HVLP reduces this but it will still affect you. Relax look at it this way if you screw up ok - you have to sand a lot so what you learn - if you have 2 kids I agree take it to the shop if not take your time have fun and then take pride in your work. Remember not too many layers of paint the paint cures inside out too many layers you will have your paint doing the pimple (puff out and pop off - aka sucks to be you. Hope this helps!
