  • No, it's just before Oxygen in the Periodic table and is therefore a lighter element.   • Nitrogen is close in mass and desity to oxygen but lighter. Remeber that our atmosphere is mostly nitrogen with albout 23% oxygen. When you go high in the mountains, the atmosphere has less oxygen. Oxygen which is denser than nitrogen is more abundant at lower altitudes. Nitrogen is more abundant at higher atmospheres.
