  • I can't find any reference to you being unable to legally rent an apartment; however, if you are a minor, you may not legally be able to enter into a contract in Virginia (contract law). If you can, your parents may ultimately be responsible for guaranteeing the contract (financially responsible for paying your rent). Finally, you are unlikely to find anyone who will be willing to rent to a minor without some cosigner (if you destroy their property, for instance, or fail to pay your rent). Any property administered by a company will want verification of your income, a credit check, and other various guarantees that it is safe to rent you their property.
  • I actually did rent an apartment at age 15, in the state of Virginia... I was married though. You may want to have someone co-sign the lease for you, which would simply state that if you do not make the payments then this person will. People try to keep from renting to younger people in general, seems they are less likely to pay the rent and things get damaged a lot more often.
  • The answer is Emancipation. To be emancipated by the court under Connecticut law, you must be at least 16 years old. You must also meet one of the following conditions: You must be married, or You must be in the U.S. armed forces, or You must be living apart from your parents or guardian and be managing your own money, or The court must decide that an emancipation is in the best interests of you, or your parents, or your minor child (if you have one). Virginia allows emancipation and must have similar laws.
