How is service perfected in a lawsuit. if i was sued and certified mail was sent to my fathers office and he signed the certified mail, has service been perfected. it is not my place of business, i have no ownership in property and he signed his name

States probably vary on this one, but technically if the certified mail was sent to you and was marked restricted, you are the only one who is supposed to sign for it. If someone else signed, you have not been served. If the case makes it to court without you being served, it's a good point to bring up with the judge. I would advise talking to an attorney about representing you in court.
