I read a very interesting book called The Dead Sea Scrolls Deception recently. It looks at the way the Catholic church gained control over the study and translation efforts, restricted access to the documents and delayed production of material until even today. I'd say the catholic church has worked very hard for the scrolls to have very little impact...
