Transexuals is a broad category, and usually refers to people who consider themselves to be a man in a woman's body or vice-versa. Most of the psychological community considers this to have a biological cause, and in some cases a sex change operation is advised. Transvestites are people who enjoy wearing clothes of the other gender, like men in skirts. Transvestites cross-dress for a multiplicity of reasons and usually don't consider themselves to be homosexual.

Transvestites are men who like to eat, drink, and be Mary.

Transvestites, as stated above, are men who enjoy wearing women's clothing, or women who dress up as men. Drag queens (and kings) are transvestites. Transexual is sometimes used a blanket term encompassing both transvestites and transgendered individuals, but generally is a synonym for 'transgendered'. Transgendered is the prefered term as opposed to transexual. Transgendered people are those whose gender identity is incongrous with their physical body, or who have undergone an operation to *make* their gender identity and physical body the same. They are people who were born female but identify as male, or were born male but identify as female. Transvestites do not have the same feels of being 'in the wrong body' that transgendered individuals do. They are perfectly comfortable being men, but for whatever reason, they enjoy wearing women's clothing. (Or they're women who happen to enjoy dressing up as men.) Hope that helps.

Transexuals are men and or women who identify with the other gender and wish to become or have become the gender of how they feel. Transvestites are gay men or women who dress as the other gender and look and act like the other gender, yet aren't sure they want to be their new gender or their old gender. Cross-dressers are men and or women who like to wear clothing of the opposite gender and may be bi-sexual or gay, yet lead lives that don't reflect that they want to become the other gender. They just get a sexual thrill from wearing the opposite genders clothing.

Easy! TransSEXuals want to change to the other gender's sex; transVESTites just want to change to the other gender's vest. You could have guessed that one!

A transvestitie is a man or woman who dresses as the opposite sex for sexual gradification, but is aware of his manhood or her womanhood and content with same. A transexual on the other hand is a person who truly considers themselves trapped in the wrong body and desires and takes all actions necessary to correct their gender dysphoria. That is to say they take hormones, have the medical help needed to reach their goal of transition and in the advance stages live as a woman in the case of a MtF or as a Male in the case of a FtM 24/7. There is as you can see, a major difference between the transvestite and the transexual.

ok wait transvestite - man who dresses up like a woman transexual - man who gets breast implants and surgery to become a woman shemale - man who gets breast implants but keeps the penis is this all accurate????
-
Both words are directed at the same group of people. If I had to draw a distinction, I'd use transsexual to refer to postoperative transgendered individuals and transgendered for those who have not yet undergone sex reassignment surgery.

Yes

I've always thought transvestite is man dressing as a woman - Dame Edna or Rupal. Whereas a transsexual is the same as transgendered, right? A man in a womans body, etc....?
-
I'm not sure.
-
I know that Eddie Izzard is a transvestite. And I believe that Ru Paul is a transexual.
-

-
A transvestite is a person who enjoys dressing in the clothes of the opposite sex. A transsexual is a person who has gone through gender reassignment surgery to become the opposite sex.

Yes +5
-
yes. transvestites dress like the opposite sex and transsexuals change to the other sex
-
Yes - any other questions?
-
Vestites simply wear clothing of the opposite sex. Sexuals go for the chop shop sex change.
-
Yes, I would be equally surprised if somebody didn't know the difference.
-
You HAVE forgiven me, haven't you, His Lordship!? After all, YOUR opinion of me DOES matter to me! LOL

Sometimes the main difference is a lack of ready cash. I knew someone who was transvestite for a long time before he saved up the money to be transsexual. That said, yes, I do know that a transvestite is supposedly someone who enjoys wearing the clothing of the opposite sex and a transsexual is someone who actually wants to be the opposite sex or feels he/she was born in the wrong body. At least, that is the official definition. In real life, the line is probably a lot murkier.

love can go in any direction at any time, unless our social training prevents us from doing certain things. that can be ok, too. in my mind, almost all the time, if you're not drunk or dumb, you know that you're with one or the other. for some folks, a transvestite often comes with a surprise!!! i call people transsexuals from the very beginning when they "think" it but don't have the physical attributes yet.
