  • You would have to ask them! Only THEY can answer that question. Although, I am most certain that most philosophers don't find it a waste of time to ponder thoughts and the meaning of life; otherwise, they wouldn't be philosophers. Instead, they'd pursue other careers & other interests.
  • Philosophers are people like everybody else. Their motivations and desires change with age and other factors. Of course some suffer from depression or hopelessness. Most occasionally wonder what is worth while and what is a waste of time. There are very few "full-time" philosophers - most of us do something else as an occupation and we accept the study of philosophy and the label of philosopher because of our interest in the subject.
  • Philosophy is a way of understanding the universe and all that is in it. The science allows us to examine the true meaning of phrases and thoughts as they are expressed in language. Philosophical questions are meant to be thought provoking, mind expanding and enlightening. As a philosopher, I can say that I have never believed that Philosophy is a waste of time. I occasionally do get tired of the day to day stuff but that just strengthens my resolve in the science.
  • I would say they have to take breaks, pauses, cause in my opinion someone could go crazy asking and answering existence per say.
  • I would say as a senior in college and a Philosophy Major that yes, like anyone who does any job etc. of course you have days where you think, "what the hell am I doing with my time". Whats the point? etc. But like anyone who loves what they do, the feeling is only temporary and before you know it you are right back in the fray whether you want to be or not and I guess thats what makes you are Philosopher when you can't help but think about it. Just my thoughts though.
  • For every philosopher, there is an equal and opposite philosopher. They are probably both wrong.
  • Yes they do! -On the other hand what has been done that isn't a waste of time? I for one do not think the debate on whether or not philosophy exists is worth to much of my time. The subtopics are worth my time. What is knowledge, morals etc. that is worth my time. I find it hard to see that the "love of wisdom" - or philosophy changes too much. For me - I do not stop loving a woman just because she falls on hard times. I do not stop loving philosophical questions and the search for answers just because lady philosophy gets beaten up now and then by those who do not care about her to start out with.
