  • Did your receive a citation for lane restrictions or reckless driving? how many times have you observed a vehicle, in front of you, cross four lanes of traffic just to make a quick exit, on the interstate? this is a violation of the lane restriction law and is borderline reckless driving, depending on the circumstances. you have answered your own question, by stating you were 50 ft. from the legal place to exit the lane. go to court, plead guilty and complete four hours of defensive driving. you will be a better driver.
  • Based on your admission of crossing the double yellow line, there's nothing to fight. Traffic infractions--in California--are general intent laws. It doesn't matter if you did it on purpose or you were just a little to early/late when you crossed. Folks in the #1 lane have a reasonable expectation that if you're on the other side of the double yellows, you won't be joining them in their lane. You don't really have a case.
