You can go to the library and look at topographical maps that show elevation.

Is your question, how to read elevation on a map or how to draw elevation. Most topo' maps are based on sea level as your base. The lines on the map will show canges in that base + or -. The incrament lines will be marked with that change (+1.6). The farther apart those lines, the less the slope. The closer the lines are, the steeper the slope
