the current doctrine of "total battlefield" came from a small skirmish in Grenada. the Army found out that they were not able to communicate with other branches of service, and also every branch had differant radios and frequencies. so, now they train to fight using all assets available. some of the stuff, like infantry tactics are the same, out of FM 7-8, but the overall battle is intertwined with all branches of service, as are the other branches. some tactics are only used by the army, such as defending in place (Marines can't do defense, they are too small of a branch) and airfield assaults (only done by rangers and airborne in the army) but the fact that the Army is the only forced entry capable branch has lots to do with the doctrine (Marines can't assault a landlocked area) so, Only the 82nd airborne, and army rangers can really assault anywhere in the world, in a 24 hour time frame.
