Yes. Its turned into the worship of Consumerism in its grossest form. Each year we are encouraged by retailers to spend ever more and more. The environmental cost of Christmas is staggering. Take a look outside the shops in the evening at the packaging and cardboard. The planet will not be able to support this level of consumption for much longer. In 25 years time, we will be thankful at Christmas for enough food to eat, as by then peak oil will have pushed up energy and food prices to unprecendented levels.

Definitely. It's so bad that Lowe's no longer sells Christmas trees. They sell "Family Trees". Pathetic.

Absolutely. Plus we've gotten so politically correct that we've almost lost Christmas altogether. It's now a "holiday" party, a "holiday tree," a "holiday greeting." :-/

I think for a lot of people it has. As for us, we are really good at blocking the world out and staying very focused on our family. We want our kids to have loving memories to look back on, rather than which Barbie they wanted, or how much 'stuff' they got. We also try and get involved in some kind of charitable giving too, and allow the kids to participate.

It sure has. Sometimes I wonder if Christmas time is a spit in God's face due to the commercialism, booze, sinful partying, sexual immorality, the lie of Santa(or Satan?) Claus, Paganism, idolatry, vainity, and hypocrisy that the Christmas holiday has become filled with now. -In Jesus' Name. Thank you and may God bless you! :)

The true meaning of Christmas has only been "lost" by people who never had it to begin with. True Christians cannot "lose" it. As far as the celebration part, that is only reverting back to it's original meaning, a winter holiday.

It's badly enough lost in Britain, but at least we still say Merry Christmas and if we talk about holidays it probably means two weeks on the Costa Blanca in summer.
