  • The link between smoking and drinking is well established for some. As is smoking after a meal. The fact might be that a smoking ban would drive away regular customers causing these Pubs to suffer financially, causing them to close. I usually look for restaurants or bars that allow smoking, as I'm a smoker.
  • Who says that is because of the smoking ban? How many closed before the ban? You can't use a number like that and assume it's reasons without justify that. Interview the pub owners... maybe they were already struggling and losing a few more customers pushed them over. Maybe they had an accident that drained thier money. Lots of things could have caused them to close down. You also have to look at the intent of the ban. The ban wasn't to promote business and improve the cashflow of pubs, it was intended to improve the health of people by eliminating much of the exposure to second hand smoke. To see if the ban is working you have to look at those results... not whether or not a pub stays open.
  • Sounds good to me. Less smoking + Less drinking = healthier people. That is a good thing.
