  • Maybe, there should be an option given to birth parents and they can specify whether or not they would like their records to be closed, in case their child comes looking for them later.
  • I think that the birth parent(s) should wait until the child/children are adults to be contacted. It'll just be difficult on the kid(s) as they are growing up, and the parent(s) that are raising them. The birth parents should indicate early on whether they want to be contacted in the future or not and the option of going back to the records if their mind(s) has changed.
  • For purely selfish reasons I wish they were open... my father was adopted at a young age, and I don't even know my grandparents' names. I wish there were some way to find out what family I was born into...
  • Open adoptions are not mandatory. The birth parents choose whether or not that is what they want and the adoptive parents don't can choose whether or not they want to adopt a child whose records are open.
  • If you cannot guarantee young parents anonimity when they consider giving up a child for adoption, they will choose other alternatives.
  • I think & feel that it is a very good idea to open adoption records. I gave up two sons for adoption when they were 1year & 1month old, they are now 27 & 26 years old and if they want or need to local me for medical reason I would be more then pleased to have them locate me.
  • Some records are open- such is the case for open adoptions, like mine. If birth parents don't want to be found, they can choose a closed adoption. There are options out there right now for either case.
  • I think that there should be an option to open the records for medical reasons.
