She has Followers? I can't stand any cooking show but hers is in a special category of nausea.
-
Sure it's unhealthy but it's really good. Fried and crispy is her thing, it doesn't mean her followers have to eat it all the time.

Every cooking show has a certain hook to it, or some type of theme that it plays along. Hers is comfort food, food that makes you feel good, tastes good, and gives you that down country whole hearted feeling...Of course...the thing about comfort food though, is that while it tastes good, its not exactly good for you. She's not trying to kill her followers though, just expressing the fun & indulgent side of cooking. It's only killing you if you take it too far, since like everything else in life, it should be acquired with moderation.

mmm I especially like the fried butter
-
Well, her thing is southern cooking, which isn't known as the healthiest fare. She offers recipes, she doesn't say you have to eat them three times a day.
-
It is all about moderation. A lot of her foods are not the healthiest fare, but if you only eat one or two of the entrees a week, you'll be ok.

I think she fills a need for homey comfort foods that make people feel loved and happy. It's not for everyday, just like a show about desserts featuring rich dish after dish would be for each day. Paula isn't a chef, she's a cook who loves to share her heart through great simple dishes with lots of Southern hospitality. And most of her dishes I've tried have been very well liked by whoever easts them when I've cooked them.

Paula is a Southern cook. She does Southern cooking and that's her thing. You shouldn't eat it every day, but some people in the South actually do eat that way most days. The South is breaded, deep fried and macaroni and cheese are listed as a vegetable down there, especially at Southern "Meat and 3s". (You pick your meat and 3 side dishes.)

Paula was so great to watch when her show first came out but as she became famous she started getting more R with her comments on her shows. The content began to be inapropriate for some viewers and many of my friends had to send there children to another room and in my eyes that is not a good familt show. the time slot of 9 pm should be change to 10 when the small ones are sleeping. Fried and crispy is great comfort food but she does'nt seem to talk about moderation like having a balanced meal espeially while she got the chicken in the deep fryer! You guys should check out the Raechel Ray Show Dot Com OR on CBS(i think ) at 9am west coast time, she has a daytime talk show that to me- bowls over paula!

If you are an avid viewer like I am of Paula Dean you will know that she has said many times that recipes are to be cooked by the recipe once and then you can start to tailor it to your liking. You can change it to be more healthy as you go along.

Most Professional Chefs will tell you the easiest way to make anything taste better is to add more fat. However, easy is not healthy in this case, its just a sign of laziness. It takes actual skill to prepare deliciouis food without massive amounts of fat, and I doubt Paula is up to that challenge.
