  • Video games, TV, laziness, internet. There's plenty of reasons.
  • Do you mean read books? Or newspapers? One of the reasons is that they spend a lot of time watching television - there is more choice and variety of channels than there was 15-20 years ago. Also, they spend more time surfing the net. Also they spend more time commuting, leaving less time for personal pursuits when they arrive home. Also DVD movies and video games have replaced reading for some. There are only so many hours in the day and when a new pastime is invented, some people will take that up rather than an older pastime like reading. And thanks for saying that this is for homework - honesty will always get you better results.
  • More media content ie TV on demand, dvds etc. back 15-20 years ago People read many for recreation, because there was no other main form of entertainment. and going back to the Victorian times (for extra credit :P) back then reading was the Ipod of today. because there is so much digital instant media now, reading for "entertainment" has vastly declined good luck with your homework.
  • All day long our minds are bombarded with media: the alarm clock buzzing incessantly first thing in the morning, the car radio on the way to work, the computer screen at the office, the telephone, cable television, the internet, video games, DVDs... with this constant stream of media being shoved down our throats all day long, we've forgotten what to do with silence. Our attention spans have adapted to cater to fast food and even faster entertainment. Reading has become "boring" in our multi-media world. We can no longer form the vivid mental images our predecessors once called "imagination" when reading a story. We see it all the time... people can read the Bible cover to cover, and it never affects them on a personal level -- yet they cry their eyes out when they see "The Passion of the Christ" on the silver screen. Reading has, somehow, become impersonal to us. I, as an avid bibliophile, find it very, very sad.
  • because listening to an mp3 player is more fun than reading "the odyssey". we don't need to read to keep up on the news, with all the television & radio news programs. video games.
  • In my opinion , I believe it's because we have better things to do . I loveeee to read but many people think there are better things to do than to read .
  • With our technology today we forget that we can still get answers to our answers from books and other resources Most people think they can just get the easy answer from the internet but usually it doesnt give as much info. as a book can give you
