  • I don't think I can give you three effects, but here's a start. As glaciers progress down valleys they scour the valley bottoms, making them deeper. The massive amount of boulder material picked up by glaciers also wears down the spurs of hillsides causing truncated spurs. As they reach the point that they finally melt they deposit all the boulder material they have picked up in the form of terminal moraines. The passage of the glacier can sometimes be seen where debris is deposited out of the sides in the form of lateral moraines. Search the internet to compare pictures of mountainous areas that have been subjected to glaciation and those that haven't. For example I live on a volcanic island that was formed 3,000,000 years ago (Lanzarote), but has never seen a glacier. Scotland was formed in a similar way, but was covered with ice during the Ice Age.
