i guess cause it has to do with religion...or lack of rather
-
Because it is still a topic that falls under religion. Atheism is purely a religious subject.
-
It is tied to religion. If there was no religion, there would be no Atheism
-
Good question, it surely is no religion, but at least we have a section to go to!
-
I think the real question is Why hasn't the religion section been moved to the Superstitions section.
-
That is what i asked just a while ago! Maybe they will give us our own category? hey
-
I would assume because when Atheism is discussed (I'm an Atheist, BTW), it generally becomes a discussion involving religion more than any other topic listed. Atheism is a lack of religious belief, in a sense, so it belongs in that category, however, being in that category, it basically is throwing the topic to the wolves.
-
I think because it is a belief. Which is to say that, they believe there is no such thing as GOD or the after life or that in fact, there does not exist A higher power etc. etc.
-
I am guessing that atheism is listed under religion because it is a philosophical choice about the age old question of religion over all. In it self, atheism is not a religion, but rather the absence of religion. So therefore it could, for the sake of discussion, be catagorized under the blanket of religious discussion. We don't blindly accept faith in an unknown where as religions do, so it could also be under the catagory of philosophy. But, lets keep it simple, let is go and accept that everyone has a view. If someone want's to have a god, that's fine with me. I will not berate them for that, and as long as they to not berate me for not having a god, we're good.
-
Because Atheism defines itself as a pendant to religion. Many people have very different views about the world and their place it the world, and if you ask them what is their religion, they will answer that they don't have any. As a differenciation to people believing in some kind of god, they can be called atheists. Some of them will just not have any interest in religious questions, other will be actively opposed to religion or the idea of a god. If there were no concept of god or religion, there would also be no need for the concept of Atheism. In some extreme cases, Atheism itself could be a belief or a kind of religion for itself, but it is rather unusual.

Beats me!
-
don't know, everyone thinks that we are a religion. tho pretty much the word atheism means lack of belief in religion
-
because its a beleif system and a opion about religion
-
Well, because Atheism deals with religion - it's a lack OF Dogmatic beliefs. Most discussions within the topic are bound to revolve around religion and religious morality. Where else would you put it?
-
Atheism is actually a belief in NO GAWD, so therefore it can be listed under the same category as religion, because to believe in NOTHING, is to believe. +5

Not everyone agrees with you. Example, A Federal Court of Appeals ruling: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=45874
-
HAHAHA that's funny I can sorta understand why it would be since it's a belief but that really doesn't make sense
