  • Just prevents it. Once they have rabies there is no cure.
  • If I remember correctly Rabies takes only about 10 days from start to finish before the animal dies from it. To the best of my knowledge, with animals, once they HAVE Rabies, there is NO CURE and it is best for EVERYONE, including the animal that they be put to sleep ASAP. I'm sorry and I hope your dog has not gotten it. If your dog has EVER BEEN vaccinated for Rabies, especially if it was done several different times, it is unlikely that the dog would contract this awful disease. The Vaccine is typically given to last a 3 year period, however, most vaccines actually stay in the body years longer than what they are claimed by the manufacturer to do. (Hence part of the big yearly vaccine controversy that is currently under debate). Even if an animal is protected by the vaccine, it is imperative that Medical treatment be given. Rabies is passed by BITES AND THE TEARING OF SKIN...it is likely the animal needs to be seen IMMEDIATELY by a qualified Vet. Infection is a strong secondary medical issue here. Please contact your Vet immediately. If your dog has never been vaccinated at all...it may not be a happy ending...BE SURE YOU TELL THE VET EXACTLY WHAT YOUR CONCERNS ARE REGARDING THIS ANIMAL.
