  • of course...this is why backyard breeders should be illegal. If you are not improving the breed - don't do it!
  • Yes it negates their value the same as if you decided to breed your dachshund to a toy poodle. The size specifications relevant to the the breed were established to create a dependable SIZE. I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, but clearly you do not know or understand the first thing about breeding dogs. Unless you simply don't care that there are several hundreds of dogs (both purebred and mixed...which in a sense is what YOU are suggesting to do..create a mixed breed TYPE) I would beg you to please become more informed and educated as to what it means to be a responsible breeder. Start attending dog shows and get to know other responsible breeders. Learn to show or hire someone to show your dog or bitch and earn your points and titles on the animal. This PROVES that the animal SHOULD BE considered for breeding, that he or she has outstanding qualities that will improve the breed. It also helps you to ATTRACT other prime, titled dogs or bitches with which to do your breeding program with! THEN you have some small change of earning a fair value for your puppies. Trust me, if you are interesting in doing this for the money...you REALLY need to speak with some breeders. You will never earn as much time, effort and cash as you put into breeding dogs or horses...it is an expensive venture.
  • No it is not going to negate the value and it will not be a crossbreed. Daschund is a single breed. It comes in 3 coats Long Short and Wire. Short is dominate to long and recessive to Wire. In the U.S. it comes in 2 sizes in Germany in 3. Standard, Chest size over 35cm under 20 lbs Mini, Chest size under 35cm Kaninchen (rabbit) Chest size under 30cm. Whether the dog is a mini or a standard is determined by chest size at or after the age of 15 months an not by anything else. Breeding a Standard to a Mini is going to make it harder for you to say with much certainty what size he is likely to be when grown. Shows are great but they are just beauty contests. Few people use Dashunds for rabbit hunting and blood tracking in the U.S. but the goals in their breeding programs are different from people who are interested in earth dog competitions and even more removed from the Conformation "run around in a circle crowds at the Shows"
  • Yes because you will be interbreeding the sizes. Yes, they are both dachshunds but they are in different classes according to size. People usually want to know which size they will be. If you breed these two, that's not possible. Before contemplating breeding, you should study up on your breed standards and know what the ideal you should be aiming for, what health problems to avoid and even get an outside appraisal of your dog's type, how close to the standard they are and what you might look for in a stud dog. And be sure to do all your vet checks, X-rays to make sure you are not spreading genetic problems in your pups. Each breed has their problems and it's wise to know what they are.
  • I should imagine so, yes. By the way, the word is "dachshund".
