Once again many reasons. Emotional problems, mental health problems, a case of "big man little dick" (Applies to both sexes but I really can't think of a good female equivalent). There is never one answer, no matter how many special interest groups tell you there is.

People resort to violence when they do not have control of a situation, feel they need to gain control of the situation, and feel they are not going to gain control through any other means.

When they are so frustrated and they don't have the tools to deal with it another way; or maybe that's what they learned from watching other people; like their parents.

No real communiation skills

If you watch a small child (or an adult who never grew up), the answer is evident. Most of the time it is because they feel powerless, and screaming/hitting gets them the attention they are wanting. Nevermind the fact that it doesn't work in healthy relationships.
